I've been Eno hammock camping using my bivyy on the inside of my bag as long as I've been camping and it retains the heat so well that I can get out and then get in and my still nice and cozy warm. They also upgraded the baffling, mini = sew through, Nano = sew through back, bottom half, chest baffling not sewn through, and, the Nano2 is suppose to be no sew through baffling. I bought this one a couple of years ago. Take heed of the temp ratings. There is a time and place for this bag, but for the average sleeper it's not if overnight temps are going to be dipping much below about 50 degrees. I unzip it (except for the toebox) and use it as a quilt during the summer, though. If you only want one, versatile bag, you're better off saving the $80-$85 and putting it toward a 0- to 20-degree bag from more well-known company. For example, Marmot's 15-degree (regular size) bag sells for about $115 at REI. It comes in at a bit over 3 pounds. Again, it all depends on the circumstances in which you'll be using your bag.

I used a 30F Marmot bag for a while and loved it. Synthetic and a bit heavy, but kept me warm during transition of seasons. Couldn't use it in the late fall much though. Got a Nemo Disco 15F bag and use it the most. You are right. 0 - 20 F Bag is the most versatile

@@JeremiahStringer I took the Marmot Trestles 20 up Mount Whitney. Woke with very minor frost on the inside of the tent poles, so temps got down there but I was cozy in that and your basic long underwear set up. But yes, it's a little north of 3#, I think. That wasn't a big deal for me since it was about as good as I was going to get around the price point I had at the time. My biggest problem is that I'm broader in the shoulders so to really be comfortable I need to switch to a wide. It would be nice if, one day, I got to that point where I was done learning lessons and had the gear I needed for all situations. :)

Potential Hack For a 0 F Bag ??? Sandwiching Reflectix Between Two Down Throw Quilts, Using Fasteners All Around The Edges. Would This Work ??? Thanks For The Awesome Review.
@JeremiahStringer
5 жыл бұрын
Could be a potential budget hack. I have used emergency blankets in addition to my bag and a bag liner during temps in the teen (F). I ran into the problem of condensation and waking up with a bit of water between the liner and emergency bag. Still stayed warm though. Could help in a pinch. Just keep in mind that reflectix is a waterproof barrier so it won't allow sweat to evaporate. Great stuff! 🙌
@reaganl.5113
5 жыл бұрын
Reflectix will add to your temp rating but because it does not breath you will have condensation when it is next to you. For me it works best as a bottom barrier, you will need something between you and it so you don't wake up damp and cold. Its a great hack, I have used one hammock camping with a cheap fleece throw over it. Some people swear it adds 20F to your sleep system.
@nathansharp3193
5 жыл бұрын
The condensation only happens when your warm body vapors condense on a 'reltively' cold area. Since that area is usually the reflectix there tends to be condensation at that point. I do think that your idea could work if you cut some 1 inch holes in the reflectix every 8 inches or so to allow the warm vapors to work their way through the system and out the top bag (of your proposed three layer system) hopefully before it condenses in the top bag. I do think that for the bulk and weight of a reflectix pad (and potential condensation) that you'd be better off getting synthetic batting. I don't know if your idea involved sewing the two bags around the reflectix or just putting it in between the two bags. Either way I do think synthetic quilt batting would be better. Maybe even stuffing some synthetic batting into a cheap Ozark Trails (Walmart) sleeping bag liner and putting that in between you and just one sleeping bag. That would require no sewing and keep the batting from falling apart. Actually! I might have to give that a try this winter! The only problem I can imagine would be that there wouldn't be additional insulation around the foot area. Maybe add an extra two feet of batting and put the liner inside the sleeping bag with the open end toward the foot box and making a foot pocket? I imagine it would work, and probably well. I can't stand cold feet at night. Have you looked at the Hammock Gear Econ Burrow top quilt? That's what I'm considering getting because it's cheap, lightweight, and compact. It's a top quilt, not a sleeping bag. I hammock camp and have a bottom quilt so a top quilt is ideal for me. I used to sleep on a reflectix pad that was about seven feet long. It rolled up to be about 8 inches around. It is pretty bulky stuff. And just FYI, you need about three or more inches of insulation to get a 0°F bag. Google 'synthetic quilt batting,' it may be what works best if you want something cheap and weight and pack-size come second. And if you sew, check out the thrift stores for decent quilts. I found a duck down quilt for $10 that I've used for a few things. My goal is to make it into my cold, COLD weather topquilt. It's king-size and weighs four pounds. My goal is to cut it to a smaller size while keeping all the down in it and sewing it into a topquilt shape. I've ripped some of the stitching and moved the down into one half of the quilt. I can get it to loft up to around three inches, but it has problems staying where I want it and it's heavy (to me) but lighter than two sleeping bags. I can even get it into a compression dry-bag and make it about soccer ball size. After I learn to sew and cut off the extra material I think I can get it to three pounds and be comfortable at zero degrees. If I can do that then I will certainly post a video of the finished product if not my whole DIY project. I've used it as is at 30°F and was plenty warm. I just need to tweak it a little to make it super-awesome.
