Aemond only became a “monster” when he realized his father would never defend or look out for him. Sure, Alicent did her best to defend him, but she had no real power. Sure she has no right to the dragon but it's the kind thing to do when she just lost her mother and its all she has left. @@higharchbishopofteatasting6217 i don't think Aemond was thinking that far ahead lol. He literally just wanted a dragon and went for the closest he could find. Like when he ventured into the dragon pit after the pink dread incident. Again they're children. 10 year olds nor 6 year olds still don't really understand how serious his injury was, especially growing up around constant violence. Aemond, however, being older than the other kids understands compassion and sympathy. He wanted to speak with Jace at the funeral but just didn't know how to approach bc his mom was watching. It's clear the boys wanted to be close, but the family feud didn't allow them to. Aemond only became cocky after claiming Vhagar. That doesn't excuse the boys slashing his eye out. But I side with Rhaena with the punch, she was angry and saddened her cousin would do that to her. She should've at least gotten the chance. You do a great job diving into Aemond and exploring his character! Yeah I agree, he said “it was worth it” more to diffuse tensions and try to end the situation rather than actually being over it. I actually really liked this change from the book to make Luc’s death an accident. Aemond is a teenager but he’s not actively an idiot. At this stage, it’s a war of ravens and alliance making, with the goal to get as many lords on your side as possible so as to pressure the other claimant to step down before there’s an actual war. Killing Luke-who bastard or no was still the recognized legal heir to Driftmark-gains them nothing and only picks a fight with one of the richest, most powerful houses in Westeros who already have close ties to Rhaenyra. Not to mention a PR nightmare. Killing a peaceful messenger and making himself kinslayer besides? There is NO WAY to spin that in a way that looks good. And as you laid out so wonderfully, there is no way the truth will be believed. (Plus in terms of historical precedent, Maegor the Cruel did famously usurp and later kill his nephew Aegon the Uncrowned in a dragon fight so…not a great look). That being said Luke’s death is still Aemond’s fault. Yes Vhagar and Arax went rogue but he was the one who ordered Vhagar to chase and bite at Luke’s heels. Vhagar, a dragon of war and conquest, who as we could see can swallow Luke WHOLE. Even without the intent of lethal harm this is WILDLY irresponsible at best. This sets him up to be so, SO interesting in season 2 I can’t wait.

@coricori7661 It's funny how everyone overlooks that Daemon didn't mind having sex with another woman on the very night of his wife's funeral, interesting way of mourning. But 10 year old Aemond somehow should've been understanding enough to let his only opportunity to claim a dragon for himself (which equals stop his bullying and become a "true targaryen ") slip away. Also given the fact that Daemon, Laena and their girls lived in Penthos Aemond and Raena were as good as total strangers to each other, it's quite stupid to expect him to sacrifice his dream of having a dragon to spare the feelings of a girl he has never met before this day.

Aemond is my favorite character. He is the result of what happens when you bully someone who then grows up and makes it everyone’s problem. As someone who was bullied as a child, I can relate. His acts of violence towards those who wronged him are secretly cathartic. My favorite scene of the show so far is when Alicent asks him “Have the atrocities of your childhood not been sufficiently avenged?” And the look he gives her in response says it all. “NO.” And they never will be. I understand this video is in defense of Aemond some of incidents you spoke on Aemond he was most definitely the victim but several times in this video you seem to just gloss by when Aemond or Aegon calls Jace or Luke “Strongs” & “bastards” as if it was nothing. Most children especially in the real world at that age wouldn’t fully comprehend but these children are royal children even outside of that they are still High Born children & these children from a young age understand inheritance they’re well aware who’s in favor of succession. By the time of Aemond losing his eye Alicent has ordered immediately after Rheanyra gives birth that she walk all throughout the Red Keep while still bleeding from not even halfway healed from childbirth & not to mention she’s holding her newborn, literally, only to immediately upon seeing the child makes claims that, that child was conceived outside of her marriage. I notice a bias in favor of the Greens in your videos, so I understand why you wouldn’t mention Alicent horrible treatment of Rheanyra like I mentioned above. Aemond had to hear that from some where & because calling the Princess who also happens to be the Heir the Throne kids Bastards or the Last name of another House in this case a lesser house those are actual words of treason & what servants of the Royal family even the boys master of arms wouldn’t say those words freely around court spiked, tongue’s being cut out & executed, especially during the time Rheanyra still resided at court with her husband himself being of High Noble Birth. Alicent is the only one who would get away with speaking about her stepdaughter kids that way matter fact she was getting away with it. As you know in the books Otto & Alicent started those rumors about Rheanyra sleeping around when she was 9 years old. There is more to speak on but I only mentioned that because it felt like you just bypassed the bastards comment as if it’s not a severe consequences to calling the Princess & Heir to the Throne children bastards, if they Aemond or Aegon were children of a lesser house or if they were low born the consequences to their actions would have been severe
@TheEmpyreanSpeaks

Let me start off by saying I am neither team green or team black. Both sides have faults but even if it is true that I seem to “favor” the greens, it’s only because I choose to highlight the aspects that most people(team black) refuse to acknowledge in these characters. My goal is to create understanding for these characters, reasonings behind the actions because a lot of people are so eager to see one side as pure evil and the other as pure good and that is not the case. I understand the mention of bastardy is a very dangerous thing and had the children been from lesser houses the consequences would have been worse, but they aren’t. The point I was trying to convey in those moments where I seemed to gloss over the insults is that there are bigger things at play here. Like these children being passed off as heirs to houses they have no real claim to, and the fact that a kid lost his eye and his father doesn’t seem to care. Rhaenyra gets away with a lot and people seem to gloss over that because “the greens are evil”. If Rhaenyra’s kids were outed as bastards I’m sure their would be consequences but with Viserys in charge and how he favors his daughter over his other children, I doubt they would be severe. Hell, he might even legitimize them to try and solve the problem. So that’s probably why it comes off as “being a bastard isn’t a big deal”. Because when it comes to some of Rhaenyra’s dangerous actions they pretty much get swept away by daddy. As for the situation with Joffrey, I honestly didn’t even think about that, but it definitely did seem like Alicent goaded her on when she definitely could have waited if she wanted to check legitimacy. But it makes sense why she does. Alicent wrongfully values this system that’s imprisoned her and to see Rhaenyra, the woman who should have more responsibility than everyone as the heir continuously shirk it, puts her on edge. From Alicents pov, Rhaenyra is doing whatever she wants, even with Laenor being gay she probably thinks he can still produce a child but refuses to(though I personally think on top of being gay, he is also just incapable of impregnating a woman in general. After all Rhaenyra did say they tried but assumed it didn’t work because their was no love. Which I don’t buy because Alicent didn’t love Viserys and gave him him four kids. Even Cersei gave Robert one unnamed kid in the show even though he died young, and she didn’t love Robert.) so to Alicent they come off as slackers with no sense or care for duty and responsibility. But, I digress. I don’t intend to favor one side over another. I just want to hopefully provide insight, and give my takes on situations for these characters.

@@varunkaushik2732No matter what we've been shown, Rhaenyra is not the rightful heir. She wasn't even properly prepared by her father nor herself to be the model ruler to win over the Realm which was absolutely necessary. She does as she wishes, covering up errors rather than owning them honestly, disregards lords unless it's convenient (which is terrible political strategy) and she underestimates the value of keeping the commonfolk content or at least not infuriating them so they don't revolt (this will be very relevant during her reign) - She's not suited to be a great ruler and in that state, a major conflict was inevitable. This will be further evidenced in her 6 month reign in s3. Her bastards have no claim so making a case for them is ludicrous. Passing them off as "Velaryons" doesn't magically make them Velaryons even if Corlys himself supports them. The law of the realm and will of the fellow Lords is grander than that. Daemon is now 5th in line for the throne (even behind young Jaehaerys) and his sons follow him in 6th and 7th respectively. Aegon is unfit to rule but that doesn't nullify him being the rightful heir, which he is. Little Jaehaerys follows, then Aemond, then Daeron. This is Westeros during the Targaryen Dynasty not Girlboss Fantasy Free-for-all w/ dragons going 'Rawr'. You have a comprehension problem if your perspective is that the Blacks are the "good guys" or even "the lesser evil".

You can say the one who physically threw a punch escalated the fight, but calling someone a bastard isn't exactly calming. Once the argument gets physical, name calling definitely escalates things. Aemon did nothing to deescalate the situation, therefore he contributed to his eye loss.

I agree on Aemond not being to Blame for the fight that cost his eye. But Viserys Not caring is not true. His son's eye was already lost. It doesn't Really matter which child is to Blame, because kids fight. Sometimes they push the other, sometimes the pushed topples over into the mud...when you are unlucky they fall down the stairs and die. Doesn't make the Kid pushing any more Vicious. Viserys surely doesn't care about Aemond Calling Rhaenyras kids names. It is that he has this word from a rumor. A Rumor that can get those kids killed, kickstart a war, dethrone his daughter, Ruin the realm and devastate the people. He longs to know who Spreads the Rumor....and put a stop to it. For everyone's sake - Aemond's too. From Aemond's perspective his father cared more about his grandsons being insulted than him beeing assaulted and mamed. But Viserys sure has other things going on. And Alicent is not the only one who cares, but overreacts. She knows she told her son of the bastards. She very much Covers up for herself here.

Aemond was mocked by his brother & cousins but only feuded with the younger smaller cousins about the pig. Claiming the dragon while they were mourning. Aemond's mother was willing to take the child's eye so it stands to reason the children who parrot what Alicent says would also be willing to take the action she intended. The smaller cousin used a weapon b/c he was the smaller & weaker cousin. Aemond didn't deserve to lose the eye but his own brother & mother instigated the unnecessary conflicts. It's unfortunate that the consequences of Alicent's bitterness & plotting fell on him.

Why does everyone attempt to justify the greens calling Rhaeneras kids bastards even tho we know how bastards are viewed they were a family in the video he says viserys sided with the blacks to dispel rumors instead of the injuries of his child I think viserys recognizes that aemond just lost his eye but also how troubling pushing this rumor can be for the realm AND THE FAMILY if he could get the kids to just love each others as cousin/nephews despite them being bastards the entire dance of dragons could be avoided to me it really just shows that the green side was always the more greedy selfish side rhaenerya never instilled that in her kids she told them to still care about them even tho they were attempting to usurp her

Exactly. If Viserys had done that, he'd have given more fuel to the rumors. And more people, not just the greens, would've felt brazen enough to say and do shit coz of it. Plus, Viserys also told Alicent a hundred times not to say shit like this. I think this was the last straw when he finds out Alicent poisoned their sons' minds and turned them against Rhaenyra and her sons. Which is what started and partly escalated the fight to begin with. So that's why Viserys can't just punish Luke, coz it's not his fault alone. Everyone played a part in it and Aemond's the one who came out with his eyes slashed when it very well could've been Jace who gets badI mean he did get hurt but it could've been worse, like how Aemond got disabled.

Exactly. People like to leave this part out or even try to defend him for that. Like well Aemond was told that too by his nephews and his older brother. Like no. How dense do u have to be to equate that to Aemond making fun of a grieving kid? Aemond was neither grieving over a dead parent nor anyone close to him when his kins teased him for not having a dragon. No one looked down at him as a person for it. But Aemond called his nephews 'bastards' to feel superiority over them while also mocking their dead father. How is that even funny? He just wasn't raised properly to think this type of behaviour is ok. It's no wonder he got jumped.

Friendly reminder that a. in the books Aemond is the one that starts the fight... Against an actual three year old. And b. in the show, he's the first one to attempt to use potentially lethal force. Jace went for the knife BECAUSE Aemond was about to bludgeon his brother with a ROCK, potentially KILLING him. Jace was 100% justified using a knife in the fight because of this. EVEN IF Aemond didnt intend to actually use the rock (and I don't necessarily agree with that statement anyway,) I don't see how you can say Luke escalated... like how is Jace supposed to know that its an empty threat? I agree with the rest of the video but there's some SERIOUS apologism going on here about the night Aemond claimed Vhagar. Or rather, there's some serious villainization of Jace?? Like Aemond was also just a kid, I'm willing to overlook his actions that night. But you're crazy if you think Jace is the one who escalated when Aemond was the one using a lethal weapon first.

@yourdad6902 so because Fire and Blood isn't in a first person pov we should assume automatically that anything it said was wrong and make all our arguments based on the opposite of what it says? Or is it saner and more sensical to make our arguments about what happened based on what the text says? You can't say with certainty that Aemond DIDN'T start the fight, but your argument is that because F&B isn't first person that we should assume he didn't even though the only inclination we have is that he did? Besides, we even see in the show that Aemond brings in lethal force first.
