On the 10th December 2023 a major landslip occurred at Bonchurch on the Isle of Wight.
This caused major damage to the area and resulted in the nearby road being closed, and in fact it's still closed up until now (March 2024).
Leeson Road is closed at its junction with Bonchurch Shute, affecting travel between Ventnor and Shanklin, and long diversions are in place.
The area used to be a really lovely tourist area with some interesting features including The Devils Chimney and The Wishing Seat, but unfortunately the final fate of these features is still unknown. Probably hardest hit was the lovely little cafe, the Smugglers Haven, which has suddenly found itself now right on the edge of the cliff.
In February 2024 I decided to fly my DJI Air2S around the area to get some shots to see just how the landslip had affected the area.
Over the next couple of months I will try to make another video flying from just above the landslip to show how it has affected the local houses and businesses.
