I failed skills too and was held up at Ft. Sam. Anyone going to skills just needs to breathe and relax. I remember exactly what I did wrong in the skills I failed but I was so focused on "not running out of time". Don't try to beat the clock, you have time! You're almost done and the nursing part is cake, so congrats on making it this far, most do not.

I was a USAF Aerospace Medical Technician at Vandenberg AFB, CA from 1965 to 1969. In those days an Aerospace Medical Technician worked strictly under the Flight Surgeon either on a base or in Med Evac. I assume that all changed at some point. I did an 8 week Medical Helper Tech. school at Gunter AFB, AL and a 12 week Aerospace Medical Technician school at Brooks AFB, TX. I loved my 4 years in the Air Force and took full advantage of the GI Bill when I seperated.

This job was my #1 choice and there was 1 opening. Unfortunately, I did not get it due to my TAPAS score being low to qualify for the position. I didn’t know that but also I didn’t take it to heart. It is what it is, and the needs of the USAF. I’m still intrigued about this job however. If an opening opens up I will definitely try to cross train into it. And plus, going to school and getting a degree/certifications in the medical field is sexy haha.

Hay I'm at Fort Sam right now as a 4N! I just got here from BMT on Friday and I'm trying to be as prepared as I can be before my classes start. Your video provided a lot of valuable information. do you have any advice for someone who will be beginning the course soon? I'm a little nervous about the difficulty of the class.
@kittyinc

Omg what a coinkydink lol. Congratulations on graduating BMT!! My advice would be to make sure you study, but don't kill yourself studying either. I know that seems like real basic advice so to be more specific: if you get into the google classroom, most instructors will upload study guides and sometimes even practice quizzes. I highly recommend doing both of those. Also, reading ahead so you can get a gist of what it is you'll be talking about the next day can be helpful. The instructors will upload the slides for the mods so you have the opportunity to look ahead. Most exams come after a weekend so I suggest using your time wisely on the weekends to get some studying in. Good luck!! I'm sure you'll get through it and time will fly by!!

Hiii I ship out on March for this job and I haven’t found any information about the job so thank god I found you. I have few questions if that’s okay? • When you finished basic training (the graduation) did they send you to your AIT school right away or would you have time with your family? (Asking cuz not sure if you got sent to Ft Sam at 8 on your grad day or next day) • How was your AIT life like? Were you able to leave whenever or like go visit family or does that need approvals too? I’m from Houston and knowing AIT is in S.A, I’m kinda glad cuz I have a baby boy. • whats your day to day like hours and stuff and have you deployed yet? I know it’s a lot but I’m sorry 😭

I dunno if this info is too late, but usually you get sent to your "AIT" (AIT is Army) school right away. I'm not sure about army/navy, but typically in the Air Force (unless you are Guard/Reserves in "student flight"/Delayed entry program) you're "pipelined" into going straight to Tech School. After you graduate BMT, you are put into a bus to go 30 minutes away to Fort Sam Huston from Lackalnd AFB (not in Huston,TX btw) the day after you graduate Basic Military Training (BMT). You will not have time in-between graduating and going to Tech School to visit family except for the graduation ceremony. You may have time during Tech School to visit family if they are nearby, but usually you wont be able to until your have the "phase 2 or 3" privileges.

I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about individuals failing out of this afsc though. What do you think is the hardest aspect of Tech School?

I'm sure that some of your experience will help get you through skills and class. The hardest part?
