If you listen closely, Naevis actually sang a lot. She has that “autotune” voice.

I don’t think they’re specifically representing anything. They’re literally JUST unhappy. They mentioned everyday is all the same and repetitive (Winter stuck in a loop), how everyone has perfect feeds when it’s probably not in reality, the blue/red pill aka choosing between facing reality or living in a simulation. So they’re all living in this illusion/simulation (the ‘continue?’ at the beginning asking if they still want to continue living in it) but aespa girlies chose to face reality instead (hence them running away/going against the crowd at the end to find true happiness) in contrary to the crowd who chose to live in it for fake happiness.

When I first watched mv, I thought that she didn't sing, so I looked at the lyrics videos. The person who sang "da-ra-ra" in the intro and sang "The city so pretty when your lights on" after the members was 'naevis'. Honestly we're all confused by the "feat. Naevis" :D
@fatmcgee509

Something kinda cool that I noticed is that the first time the “the city so pretty with the lights on” gets echoed, it’s discordant and kind of distorted as well. The next couple times are more in tune and sound more like a real voice. It’s like Naevis is quickly “learning” to speak/sing in just those lines…I feel like that’s probably intentional right? They don’t seem to put anything in without a reason….

As we saw at the end of aespa's "aespa ep.3 'Girls (Don’t you know I’m a Savage?)' - SM Culture Universe" video, naevis was forced to leave Kwangya because she left the Flat in order to help aespa defeat the Black Mamba hacker. At the end of that video naevis informes the creators of Kwangya that if she can no longer stay there then she knows where she wants to go, which is to MY's world. MY is the name of aespa's fans. Therefore, in "Welcome to MY World," aespa are welcoming naevis to the real world where we fans live, to become part of an alternate reality. Also in "Welcome to MY World" we do hear "naevis" singing some of the lines of the song -- if you look at a lyric video you will see that naevis sings part of the hook and in the bridge -- so it looks like SM may have taken the story one step further and the company may be jumping on the virtual idol trend, where a singer takes on the persona of an avatar character and we never actually learn their real name or know what they look like in person. I also see "I'm Unhappy" as a continuation of the storyline and themes within their "aespa ep. 2 'Next Level' - SM Culture Universe" video and their "Life's Too Short" MV. Where aespa touches on the darker side of idol culture and all the negative things that come along with living as an idol. We see Winter as a victim of bullying, NingNing is someone who is suffering with anxiety, Karina is dealing with insecurities and the burden of living up to expectations, and Giselle is struggling with thoughts of self harm and suicide. As with everything to do with SM's SM Culture Universe storyline, yet again the themes within its songs and MVs are designed to create a social commentary on issues within society that we as humans need to address if we are ever going to be able to conquer those evil forces i.e. the Red Force, Black Mamba or whomever the new villain -- which we discovered at the end of aespa's ep. 3 video, is now played by BoA -- turns out to be.

As far as MVs and Story goes, yes there is an overarching story but they also have an actual theme. Its often related to online presence, social media, and its effects on people/reality. The title tracks are mostly about the main story of defeating the Black Mamba, but there are side parts where the members struggle against the negative aspects of the online world. Examples such as hate speech, constant strive for perfection/unrealistic standards, being judged/rumors, constant surveillances etc. Songs like 'Life's too Short' and 'I'm Unhappy' definitely touches on these subjects. Slight spoiler but even the main villain of aespa, the Black Mamba, is the amalgamation of all the negativity online

Naevis' voice is from a vocal sythesizer (realy people provide their voices to create a virtual voice, and a producer (yes actual human being) can use a program to jot down what they sing and tune them to sound realistic. A Vocaloid, or Hatsune Miku if youve never heard of.) The fact that Naevis has the 2nd most lines in this tract after Ningning lmao. Also the weird wavy thing youre seeing is basically a representation of an unseen force that guided the girls to Naevis, probably the Kwangya 'gods' spiritually guiding them to unite.

So I'm gonna comment before watching your reaction. I've been waiting for this to drop all night. I've literally been refreshing my page like crazy since yesterday hoping to see more reactions to Welcome to MY World. I'm not a reactor because I'm not confident in front of the camera, but like everyone else in the world, I have reactions that differ song to song and some that even surprise me. If there were any video that I wish I would have filmed myself when I first watched it, it would have to be this one. Funny thing is I'm a communications major (currently on break due to surgery last year) yet I struggle speaking on camera. My reaction though.... I cried. The tears streamed down my face and I couldn't make it stop. There is only one other kpop song that has that power on me. (BTS Butterfly) Something hit me with this song that I cannot even explain. I'm excited when the rest of the album comes out next week. I think Kai may have a contender for my album of the year.
