Afang soup is one of the easiest Nigerian soups you can make - it is also delicious and full of nutrition! If you live in Nigeria, it is better to grind it at the market-your soup would be less watery & the texture better (but I realise they don't wash the leaves before grinding which is why I prefer grinding at home)

Hello Sisi. You can try pounding the leaves instead. Wouldn't require water, so the soup will be drier. Also if you find somehow that the water is too much, leave the pot open for the water to vaporize

There are two major ways of cooking it, most people don't know the other method which doesn't require waterleaf and it's a classic. It's called "Afang eyop" Eyop there is what the Igbos called banga. Afang eyop is prepared the same way banga soup is prepared and it goes this way:- 1. Boil the palm kernel in water until soft. This should take about 20 to 25 minutes. 2. In a mortar and pestle, pound the kernels until pulpy, then transfer the pulps to a large bowl. Add water and sieve into another bowl or pot. Keep doing this until you get enough liquid extract to make your soup. Dispose of the rest. 3. Wash and season your meats, fish (preferably fresh cat fish) and whatever else you are using and boil until soft (the same way you are doing in this video). 4. Boil the extracted palm kenel liquid for about 10 to 15 minutes. 5. Then add your meat, fish, crayfish, a little more chilli powder, salt and seasoning cube to taste and cook for about 10 to 15 minutes. 5. Add your Afang leaves and let it cook for about 15 -20 minutes or less. That’s it. Don't forget to come and thank me later. :D God bless my mama.

I'm a calabar girl and Afang is my favorite soup. you cooked it very well but water was too much. we have a special waterleaf we use in cooking Afang which is 'curly waterleaf' it does not have water and very dry. next time try it

Sis Yemi I really like that your recipes is natural and fast, you didn't talk too much, you didn't waste time. But I most also mention (as a cross-river girl) that the traditional Afang soup is not blended, the least you can do is eat pound the afang just a little bit. I am not shading your recipe, I love it.. Guys you should try it out, but I also urge you to try it the way I recommended, you see how they sliced that afang for you, cook it like that or pound it a little to soften (seems like you like soft afang) and taste the massive difference. Its my people's local meal, so I had to comment. But then again. Thank you for great content.. Loving your channel ❤👍

I cook this soup every other week, my favourite. I usually add my palm oil before I add the water leaf, then the Ukazi. The palm oil mixing with the stock, before the introduction and soaking of the waterleaf and ukazi makes it taste amazing. Nice one sisi

Well done. I’m partly Calabar and grew up in Calabar. We cooked the soup all the time. I’m so glad to see you didn’t add onions. A typical CALABAR person cannot stand onions in Afang soup. You did well Sisi Yemmie.

SisiYemmie, Pls always do well to caption each interval of your cooking video with the time it takes to wait or boil a particular ingredient of soups. For example, caption clearly on the video 5mins if it should take 5mins to boil the meat and other chewables before adding waterleaf and the rest of it. it will help deaf subscribers at least since your video is targeting anyone irrespective of age and condition. My own opinion.

No periwinkles, the ones with shell and the ones without shell,( beaded periwinkles) it's white and slightly bigger than the green ones you used. It's called Nkor-nkor in Efik. Then we put palm oil with our meat stock to cook with it and let the water dry down before adding waterleaf and crayfish then let it cook for a while, we bring it down before adding the afang. It stays fresh n green.

AFANG SOUP is easily the best soup in the world. Blending the Afang leaves is like choosing fried rice to jollof rice at Nigerian parties. 😂. To get the taste of Afang soup, the Afang leaves should be pounded with a mortar. It tastes very differently, more like the road side Afang soups. Blending it would give you hotels Afang soup kind of taste which just doesn't cut it.
