But besides that let the man tell his story in order, Now this the part I like but why it took so long to get here is just annoying.

Now imagine the paranoia and betrayal Pac must've felt during the last two years of his life.. Songs and principles that he was most known for at that time had to all of a sudden be perceived in a complety new light by him: If My Homie Calls (Haitian Jack, Stretch & Biggie betrayal) Keep Ya Head Up (Ayanna Jackson Rape Allegations) Holla If Ya Hear Me (Quad Studios Shooting) Dear Mama (Afeni's lie about his father being dead) Pac had to learn hard lessons about friendship, love and family as we all do. Wow............... no words. His stories are so powerful. It's good to hear two sides. Tupac's parents = powerful. I am pretty sure that Tupac had this conversation with his dad in prison. This is the first time we are hearing this(duh..right) but this is surreal because this is another story that the movies should have included. This just shows that there's two sides of the story and not every dad is a dead beat dad.. especially in this case. Not sure why Afeni would declare that Billy is dead when he was alive the whole time. Tupac must have felt so betrayed. But then again, we need to know if Billy even tried to search for Pac when he was a kid as well or was he manipulated into thinking that Afeni was hiding Tupac because of the Black Panther situation.. I don't know.. but this is sad and beautiful at the same time. It's just too bad that Tupac died over fame, greed and money. I don't think Orlando killed Tupac either. I think it is a set up. Just like Biggie. Tupac and Biggie were ready to leave their labels and they were killed. Anyways.. it is good to see Billy Garland took accountability and not continued on speculating about Afeni since she isn't here to speak for herself. I think Afeni's passing was sad too. Her passing was weird too. Rest her soul. It must he hard of him to live with this.

I think Mr Garland is pretty cool too. I do feel like we are getting his side yet there are always 3 sides to every story. The 2 opposing sides… and then the truth in between. Moreover I wonder if Mr Garland had a hand in raising Pac would he even be Pac tho(a sentiment Mr Garland seems to share)? What makes up a man is all of his experiences with everything that’s ever happened to him being an ingredient in the makings of their personality. Pac is recognized as many things… but overall as a symbol of rebellion. I’m not sure Pac is as ‘no holds barred’ if Mr Garland is there and they both had a hand in raising him.

@@reodagreo7637 thanks for the reply. I agree with you, that experiences shape your personality, no contest there. But had he had his father present throughout his life his experiences would've been different. Who knows, maybe he wouldn't have been a rapper....but me personally I think that & feel that the presence of his father would've made him even stronger. Don't get me wrong, I dont mean to disrespect Afeni, but I consider that the only thing she did wrong is exactly not letting him meet his true father...everybody deserves to at least meet both their parent and after that decide for themselves who they wanna keep in touch with....Afeni denied this chance for Pac while he was a youngster and this made a mark on him

I agree with you. He probably wouldn’t have had as much anger and passion. Not having his father in his life was the main reason he was angry. Maybe PAC would have been a bigger movie star then he was a music artist. It’s hard to say but one things for sure, he would have had the love and structure he was yearning for.

I think Afeini kept the secret because she thought she could teach him better on her own, as opposed to sharing that responsibility with someone who also wasn't stable. With all of her flaws, she instilled all the great characteristics in Pac that we love, from his love of reading and WRITING, which would contribute to his outstanding work ethic, to sending him to art school so that he could be exposed to the possibilities that she was also exposed to as a poor art student herself, and of course to his revolutionary mind and message & love for blk ppl. She was poor, alone, on drugs, and traumatized from the aftermath of what the FBI did to them (remember, all of that fbi stuff as completely New and foreign to all of them. Blk ppl were clueless about that type of shit in the 60s/70s. They didn't have movies and songs about undercover agents and infomants like we do now). She's a human with great gifts and a great flaw. She was still a brilliant teacher to pac even as an addict, she was just poor. Maybe she just knew she was smarter than Billie and could teach Pac better without the influence of someone who couldn't teach him what she could. I'm just speculating, don't kill me.

People just naturally hated on Pac honesty and his glow. The man had a spark to him that stuck out so hard. Then he had the Panther Party Revolutionist behind him and Panther roots legacy already while he was alive and popular. He also had gang bangers following him and letting him take lead. Yeah but she was honest about her life story she never told Tupac dead he thought another guy who ironically wasn't a part of either was his father he ended up dying in prison. Now I don't know if there was a pact to let Tupac think legs was his father even though he did nothing for him but Garland was there according to himself he could've told Tupac he was his real father but he chose not to. He even knew that he was living in shelters but chose not to intervene. One minute he says it was a one night stand and she could've been mad at him for that and that's why she didn't tell him then in the next breath he says she was his girlfriend and they would go to her speaking engagements together. The point is what good would it have done to let him know that not one but two guys did not want to be a part of his life? The only one that stepped up was Mutullu Shakur and acted like his father up until he got locked up

Oh no Billy stop the gaslighting. You can’t compare Afeni”s occasional absence due to drug issues to your almost two decade of just not giving a fuk . Also, I don’t believe it was about money because Tupac wasn’t even a rapper yet when he was told you’re dead as in deadbeat plus she might have double dated another person while with you and honestly wished that the other guy was Pac’s father. Let the woman rest in peace.

The real question is I guess when did she really tell Tupac that. If she told him that before he became famous then it was most likely out of bitterness. He mentioned before that he had another girlfriend or a wife maybe she was upset about that. Another reason for saying he was dead was to simplify and relieve him of the burden of wondering who his dad was or where he was. Also if she believed he was not good which is probably an exaggeration cuz you know how people get in a relationships she might have felt like he shouldn't have been in his life because of his character or whatever. But I'll say that that was a bad move she shouldn't have done that. She could have been honest and said hey this guy left me for somebody else. I respect her but at the same time she was not a great parent at times in his life especially during important times like late teenager. I can't blame her The streets are ugly and the crack epidemic swallowed millions of people it seems

These comments are wild. It speaks volumes about the mindsets of people. Afeni was an extremely complicated woman. She wasn't a saint and she didn't give birth to one either! I'm sure that she and Tupac had a complicated relationship. However, there is no way you can love Pac and disparage the vessel that brought him here. We don't know why Afeni made her choices and it really doesn't matter some 50 years later. The only person she owed an explanation to was her son. Mr. Garland should not be discussing this publicly out of respect for his son.

Can you help me out here? He says that Afeni told Tupac that his father was dead and claimed that it was over money, but Tupac spent his childhood and teenage years on welfare with his mom, so obviously money wasn't a factor.
