What you have there is essentially an enhanced video camera that present whatever the sensor.sees as a video image and that is true for most digital night vision devices. Military grade, as you call it, NVD’s are image intensifier tubes that actually amplify the incoming photons via a micro channel plate and phosphorus screen which makes for amazingly detailed views of the night sky. We use them at my.MedEvac job and the crew and I always scanning the night sky for meteors, satellites, and of course the exceptional Milky Way views as we are returning home from a mission. I might ad that the ANVIS-9’s we use are wonderful for spotting low clouds and kept us out of trouble on many an overcast night. Clear Sky’s!

Good luck reaching distant stars with that little IR illuminator. Even if you are very patient, the return signal will be too weak to pick up.

Actual Gen 1 passive binocs are also available on Amazon for $120 -$150. Confirmed good stargazing and satellites but depends on sky conditions.

I believe a digital camera with IR filter removed and then use a IR torch of the correct wavelength is the same principal of looking at objects say up to 200mtrs dependent on level of IR illumination, which is what the binocular is seeing with IR on. I have similar "bino" they appear to be many makes looking similar possibly the same inside. I have had gen 1 and 2, the binos are far superior looking better than gen3, but only within the beam range of the IR. Gen 3 will be superb on sky as you know. Looking locally you will not be disappointed, I love them. About £110 in UK.

I have the unbranded version of the NV400-B model which is the same thing from Creative XP in this video. I like everything it does do ,but I wish to share that there is something else it is good at. It’s excellent for spotting and recording UAP activity. I now have more than 30 excellent recordings of things that are truly bizarre.👍🏻🍻🕯

excellent, informative, "unfortunatly the whole point is "vision"" your camera work was very lax, never hiolding a shot so we could get a good sense of quality sight, and a wobbly view is nauseating, so so sorry but, good not great, thanks cheers.

I prefer the night vision device over binoculars any day…because you can record what you are viewing easily. It will probably take some time before you guys realize how extremely lucky we are to have these wonderful digital night vision devices that are available now to the public. From 1989 to 1999 ,and then a few times after my military service, I used night vision devices priced anywhere from $400.00 to $50,000 and the digital night vision devices ,a good number of them, are far more effective than what my troops and I had back then. Also, if you are in a UAP hotspot…you can see some amazing things. You will also be able to record what you are looking at. I now have more than 30 excellent recordings that absolutely nobody can explain away. I’m using nothing more than the off-brand version of the NV400-B model of the same device in this excellent video of yours which is quite possibly the most honest video that I’ve come across on KZitem thus far. Cheers! 👍🏻🍻

I do have a NV400B, it works great (except when you zoom in, because its a little laggy...). I also have a gen2 pvs7. For stargazing, I would recommend analogic ones (the ones with IIT). In a very light polluted area (my house), these will work incredibly well (much better than any digital device). Yesterday I used them and its an amazing experience hehe

The problem with IR mode with these binoculars is that they have a bright IR LED shining out, and they expect to be able to see the IR light bouncing back. Obviously that's only going to work with things that are close by - clouds and stars are far too far away. What you need is something that is extremely sensitive to incoming light, and that's what the military version does.

I use this Glass Condor Pro almost every clear & partially clear night. Your videos match exactly what I see with mine. I can track brighter reflective sats and some stars through foggy nights and low-density clouds. Most casual users get mislead by marketing tactics. True infrared is thermographic with low-pass lenses that pass 4000-17000 nm wavelength light to a typically Vanadium Oxide sensor. Low-light “infrared” viewers are NEAR-infrared whose sensors detect as low as 850 nm plus visible light 400-700nm. These sensors have the IR-cut filter removed to detect the 850nm range. True infrared thermographic consumer viewers will not see thermal wavelengths of stars due to scattering and absorption of the starlight by water vapor and clouds. However the three-dimensional depth and detail the thermographic viewers bring out in cloud formations is a wow! factor.

For Clouds, get yourself a thermal camera (i love my seek thermal, plugs in my phone and comes in a good case), you can even spot really thin cloudlayers that you see stars through with it! As a bonus you can check the house for thermal leaks in the winter :)

If M42 looks better with the infra red turned off probably best just get normal binoculars! As for cloud spotting I suppose exotic one's like nacreous and noctilucent clouds are of interest to astronomers but not normal tropospheric ones!
