I honestly don't get how him being straight edge makes him a douche? I'm not a vegan, but, I have never done drugs or drunk alcohol and I refrained from being promiscuous until I found the right person like straight edge people do and I get called all sorts of rude names. Can you simply tell me how drug use and alcohol makes any sense? I mean- I don't understand how it can be fun to ruin your perfectly fine body and possibly get yourself killed or something like taken advantage of or pregnant when you're under the influence and then you wake up and can't remember it and get all cranky at work and angry at people cause you're hung over and/or stoned- I don't understand how me not using any of that makes me the douche? Do people simply realize they're killing themselves by being addicted to drugs/alcohol and because it's too late they decide that drug use is cool/the norm and anyone not killing themselves like they are are just uncool?

Some of my biggest regrets and stupid embarrassing moments in life can be attributed to alcohol and so on. I still drink wine and have a few beers in moderation, and a few beers or glasses of wine a day can actually be healthy, but being -straight-edge and vegan on top of it is a prime example of complete self-control, an epic level of willpower. Most of the billions of people on this planet I feel could not exhibit that kind of discipline. That is something I am in awe of and the rest of society should respect that in Davey, even be jealous of it, and strive to move in that direction. I was a bouncer for years, walked the streets doing outreach for homeless teens, seen friends O.D., watched videos of the dog meat trade in Asia and of the slaughterhouses in the U.S. Unlearn and re-educate yourselves people, be inspired by Davey, put down that needle, that shot, that bottled water, that hamburger. It's time people start taking care of themselves better and give a shit about the environment and other creatures on this planet. So much of the ugliness in the world, including homelessness, animal abuse, pollution, broken homes, incarceration, murder, rape, child/spousal abuse, 3rd-world countries, global warming; all can be tied into drug/alcohol abuse, the meat industry, capitalism. Davey Havok, much respect brother.

I could do without the comments using words like "evolve". Humans will never evolve from meat entirely and it comes off as condescending when it said like that. As if other people *aren't* evolved if they don't have a plant based diet. But he's certainly not alone in that mentality and from his perspective, I get it, just don't agree. But, that's whatever. It clearly works for him and he's inspired others to make changes, so good on him. Davey's style of dress around 2000 was very gothic-oriented. He wore black gothic band t-shirts, black jeans/pants. He went from a Misfits Devilock to long hair by 2003. He actually said in an interview that the only way he would have joined the Misfits then was if Glenn Danzig called him up and told him it was okay. I miss Davey's image from this time period, as it appealed to me on an artistic level. I also miss the gothic-themed lyrics combined with a unique hardcore punk sound that afireinside had evolved into. I was hoping that they would keep building on that style, but they deviated into a more mainstream sound. They still make great music, though. To me Sing the Sorrow is the culmination of their (although they hate to admit it) gothic/hardcore phase. They complain that it isn't a genre, and it isn't because few bands can pull off that sound. It's just a description of their music/image at the time. And they did it beautifully! Sing the Sorrow is their true masterpiece. Black Sails in the Sunset and The Art of Drowning are equally as powerful, but not as epic. I don't mean to disrespect Davey or AFI, I think they are one of the most authentic bands around. Burials has it's moments, but it lacks the intensity of their middle period. Davey's lyrics have always fascinated me, but they seem too straightforward in a way, now. I guess growth is not always how we imagine it will be. I still hope they keep making music, and you never know, they may rekindle old fires...

the only thing I can add to what you said, which is not to discredit what you've said, as I'd call it all true. Is that they as a band have said they won't want to just keep doing the same thing, they want to grown and evolve ,and I think you can stand by that they started as hardcore punk, moved into gothic punk (IE the misfits) then more kinda emo punk and now they remind me of depeche mode lol... makes me wonder just where they will go next! I'm not gonna pretend I like it all, but as someone that plays music and wishes to all hell I could have band that makes money I can respect not wanting to do the same thing... try listening to the same song 100x in a row.... now imagine doing that then playing one instrument on it 1000x in a row... that's rough.. they may change their style, but who they are, doesn't change, and you can hear that... and honestly that's rare bands change style or mellow out all the time and sound like 100% different bands, you can still hear AFI in their new stuff even if it doesn't sound the same.

The biggest issue with world hunger and food is that people can't afford it or do not have access to it everywhere. There is not true answer of what would truly save the Earth in terms of food production. But, truthfully, humans are parasites and they are destroying the world. He's so humble. I dont know if anyone caught what he meant. Or what I think he meant when asked about the article about him. He said their are mirrors which distract him more than sentences about himself. I think he's implying. I know who I am I dont need strangers to tell me.

I think he's just mirroring the host to try and make him feel comfortable. Davey is a very charismatic performer and artist, but the guy doing the interview is obviously very low energy, boring, nervous, and awkward. Davey knows he has to do this to get this guy to relax. I actually felt bad for Davey. Talking to boring low energy people is the worst 😒

He also apparently hated everything about college. I used to be a part of the AFI fanclub, which meant that I had access to a forum where the band members could get on and answer questions from fans. I asked him what he disliked the most about college (while stating that I hated the goddamn 7:30 am classes I had) and his answer was short, sweet, and to the point: "Everything."

I've always been fascinated with Davey, I kinda grew up with him, when I was 18 I discovered AFI promoting straight edge and vegetarian/vegan lifestyle and I said "this is me". Then I got a tattoo of them in my lower back when I was 19. I'm 31 now :)

why do so many meat eaters get so offended when someone who is vegan or vegetarian mention it? It doesn't mean they are shoving it in your face or calling you an awful person so stop getting so butthurt over the fact that someone has a different lifestyle as your own

At this date in time (10/30/21) Davey Havok is 45 years old According to Google. This video was 8 years ago, he'd be 37-38 during this video. He looks like a 20 year old in this video, he currently still looks just about as young as he did in this video despite being almost a decade older. Obviously the age is showing, however most people begin falling apart fast around 40-45 depending on their lifestyle. If he still looks like he's in his 20s, I firmly believe this man has lived a stress-free, easy-going life and hasn't touched a single cigarette or did any drugs whatsoever. As well as eating only fruit and salads every day. He ages like a god. He's immortal. Davey will live long enough to witness the Sun die, explode, and consume our entire solar system.

AFI has been my favorite band since I found their music around 2000, when I was 13 years old. I was beyond blessed to finally see them in concert in 2014, opening for TSTM and Linkin Park (all 3 bands put on an absolutely INCREDIBLE show!!) AFI only did like 5-6 songs and I bawled my eyes out through every one as I was singing along. 😂 One of my best memories in life.
