Across the continent, there are African creatives including digital innovators and experts, fashion designers, film producers, musicians and actors all seeking innovative ways to and grow their businesses, create opportunities, and build their brands.
These creative industries are potential job multipliers with the potential to generate over USD 4.2 billion annually in revenue across the continent. The film, music and handicrafts sectors have become some of Africa’s most vibrant industries, with a global audience growing exponentially.
Speakers:
Viola Llewellyn, Moderator: We are sitting in the presence of giants which are leading the markets and making difference in different sectors thus contributing towards the development of the continent.
Ben Bruce, Founder, Silverbird Group: It’s been a tough journey for me but what i believe if you are passionate enough towards you goal, you just make it to it. There was a time when information regarding films and music were hardly available and choosing acting as a career was not a cup of tea. When I was in my school, I developed a passion for acting and used to see other children performing. Now, I just want to do something for the youths of similar passion so that they can make their career without having much to suffer comparatively.
Elie Kumae, Founder, Creative Director, Elie Kuame Group: I still remember, once my father didn’t want me to choose my career as a fashion designer but ended up being my first supporter for the same. I knew, If I work hard enough to achieve my dream, I surely will achieve it. And now, I want to take it to a larger scale so that it could benefit others in achieving their life goals.
Obi Asika, Founder, Iba Ajie: It feels great when we are able to think and work for the creative sector rather than only for the traditional sector. Today, the people can find opportunities of their choice due to the availability of information and the institutions which help them grow in their careers.
Osinachi: There has been a myth that the people who take interest in arts or want to become an artist, can hardly make their way towards it. With the emergence of the internet and especially, blockchain technology helped me a lot in building my career as an Artist. And, i believe, the parents of the children need to think twice before advising their children not to opt for their choice of becoming an artist rather they should support them.
Samba Bathily, Founder & CEO, Africa Development Solutions: We started with Energy Water Solution Telecom and a few years back we invested into music studios and also in the cultural centre and we are also investing in film studios. Our aim is to make this place in a similar pattern to Hollywood. We have been busy now in making the series and we believe this multi million project is going to change the entertainment sector of Africa.
