Hello! Thanks for the tips. Is there a way to achieve the same results as in the "Fixed dashes around circle stroke" but with a rectangular shape?

i've wanted to learn this typing text technique ever since i've seen it. and now i did. thank you! to anyone doing this, here's what i've additionally discovered: I) to prevent your text from jumping around while you animate it: make sure that the text anchor point is located on the middle left bounding box square. iI) to control the blinking speed: *) to have two blinks per second type: blink = Math.round( 2 * time % 1 ); *) to have half a blink per second type: blink = Math.round( 0.5 * time % 1 ); *) etc. iiI) to animate something like "destination: earth", then pause, then delete "earth" and then type "unknown" instead: go to the time you want your animation to start, type "destination: earth", hit source text stopwatch, animate this text until the moment you show "destination", show "earth" and hide "earth", at this moment in time hit source text stopwatch again and type "destination: unknown" (this will change the contents of your text layer from this moment in time!), finally animate the "unknown" part.

@@Animoplex Linear & Modulo expression . yesterday I used some of your expressions to create a slider with which with a math.round it returned me an integer from 0 to 12. this value was going to replace a string in another link expression. (I had 12 tracking points in 3D) all this to drive 2D callouts linked with expression toComp to 3D nulls and switch the tracking point interactively.

the start fade and end fade doesn't seem to work, I've tried different values on each side of the scale. How do they work?

Hi there, can you copy the blinking cursor expression and paste it here? It's not working on my side for some reason. Thanks for the great tut!

The dashes expression is exactly what I was looking for. Not sure why this isn't integrated into the dashes menu by default. How would i do the same but on a square?

Great question! For a square or rectangle, you could calculate the perimeter by adding up all four sides instead of using circumference.

@@digitalmole8236 For a rectangle path in a shape layer, the size property represents pixels. Add up all 4 sides and that should do it!

Can you make a tutorial on small data of infographics which is being shifting according to values. Data may be of top 10 KZitemrs in a particular year. Will be glad to your response.

thank you for sharing your knowledge. Could you explain, as the stars are pareted to a shape layer called control, why have you parented them? which kfs has Control layer? it is position? or it has a slider control?, or position linked to slider control? do you also animate the camera in z position? The planet layer is also parented to control shape layer, but when I put the startFade=6000 and endFade = 15000, the planet doesn´t disappear. S, if my camera is at position in z = -4780, and the planet layer is at z=0, the control layer is at z=0, how do I get the planet to start in opacity 0% and end up at 100%? thank you.
@Animoplex

Hey Fizink, thanks for the questions. The Star layers are parented to the Control layer to make it easy to move them as a group, instead of individually keyframing each layer's Position value. The startFade and endFade values are specific to your own project and you may need to adjust these values based on your own setup. A good way to calculate this value is to add this expression to a temporary text layer and replace the "YOUR LAYER HERE" layer name with your target layer's name: cam = thisComp.activeCamera.toWorld([0,0,0]); length(cam, thisComp.layer("YOUR LAYER HERE").toWorld([0,0,0])) And this will output the layer's distance from the camera which you can plug into the variables in your expression. Hope this helps!

hay man awesome tutorial!! thanks for sharing. I have a question regarding the type cursor when the type animation completes and the cursor is blinking it moves the text like it's adding and removing the pipe symbol from the main text. Is there a way to fix this?| thanks for the tutorial! :)

just figured the problem only occurs in center aligned text.
@Animoplex

You can fix this by creating a " " empty space for when the pipe symbol is not visible. It helps to keep the width of the text layer the same.

Oh, interesting. It's already in there. Maybe center-aligned text is not respecting the empty space character. You said you fixed it with the left-aligned text instead?
