"Songbird" ironically isn't even a Phillips application, its just a open-source music player that Phillips had modified for use with their profucts.

Philips is basically the Dutch RCA nowadays. They only do medical equipment now, all other "Philips" electronics are now just rebranded stuff from other (usually Chinese) companies. I think this thing is one of the last pieces of audio equipment they made themselves, which really says it all.

I'll give Philips a bit of credit; they picked a pretty decent company to license the Philips and Magnavox TV and DVD player rights to. For years they've been made under license by Funai. And, honestly, Funai does a good job. They're not super high end or anything; but, they're fine and seem to hold up well.

Conspiracy theory: KZitem doesn't care about getting rid of the bots, it gives them multiple reasons to more easily get rid of commenting. They derail conversations, and create scam problems, people will be less willing to go through comment sections and comment and conversations will be less on topic, and KZitem has the excuse that they are helping us by dumping the comment section for our protection from the bots. I hope it's not just a matter of time.

I actually still have one of these things! It doesn't need any software and it is drag and drop compatible, but it only works when it's off, and sometimes plugging it into your computer to charge turns it on. I loved mine a fair bit but 4 gig capacity is tiny.

i actually went through like 2 pairs of those earbuds. they were my favorite gym headphones because of the big rubbery hooks. they stayed on when i was running, but i could also pop one out and leave it hooked on my ear if i needed to talk to someone. and they were relatively cheap, so i wasn't terribly worried about them. but if they did happen to snag on something, since it's a big rubbery hook and a traditional earbud, if it gets pulled heard enough, it just pulls away.

If you're still looking for some good earbuds with that kinda vibe, check out the brand KZ, specifically the KZ ATE. They've got lil weights on the cords and also loop behind your ears. They're great.

I didn't know philips made mp3 players in the 2010s, and i don't know why they would have bothered making junk for so long. My first mp3 player before i knew any better, was one from philips around 2005, which specifically required WMA files with DRM. So the 20 or so songs i had from MSN music (again, before i knew any better), were all I had, and my burnt CDs from KaZaa were useless -_-. Returned that piece of trash. Got a Rio Nitrus instead.

Philips hasn't made a compelling consumer product that wasn't either a personal hygiene device or a light bulb since the late '90s. Not worth buying.
