@MikeSpikes-ns7or

Nope. I myself am not religious but I can't understand why atheist don't get the fact that "sin" all sin is harm done to other humans... In other words, your little insults and temper tantrums don't harm God and God will not "punish" you for anything you did against him but for the stuff you did to other human beings. It's simple really. If you or anyone else claims to have lived a perfect life where you never caused any harm to another human being you are a liar. The people in hell will be those that go to the grave insisting they are perfect. I'm glad you mentioned the fact that God made it impossible for us to keep his laws because you are correct in saying so... This is where the hypocrites Bible thumpers fail, instead of realizing this fact and being more "compassionate" towards others because we all fail in different ways, the thumpers use religion to marginalize others who don't share in their sins for example gays. In conclusion, this life was meant to humble us. True humility is accepting your failures and becoming compassionate with your fellow men. All sin is against other humans. This life is kinda like the Wonka Charlie chocolate movie, one good deed in a world of bad ones I will use myself for example, I struggle with lust. I have never drank alcohol or used drugs, much less have had to battle with homosexuality... But I do sin... In my own way. The Bible is full of lists of sins and things that offend God. You are bound to find something you're guilty of if you read long enough. Is the drug addict worse than the gay? The porn addict worse than the murderer? No. They are all guilty of sin. Same sentence unless... They "repent" Repentance is accepting your flaws and not condemn others for theirs. As a porn addict, your internal thoughts when you see a gay shouldn't be to condemn him and hope he goes to hell but rather, since you yourself are guilty of other things, you should hope God has compassion on him and you. Humans ruin everything including religion. True religion is to plead the cause of the widow and the cause of the orphan as stated in the Bible.

Good try. I'm non religious and I go by what the Bible says and as I understand it.
@MikeSpikes-ns7or

@@Nick-Nasti It's as if the message of the new testament flew over your head. Jesus explained time after time that all he wants from us is to be kind and merciful towards others.. He used the parable of the good Samaritan as well as the parable of the 2 men that were forgiven great debt as examples.. When the Pharisees (religious leaders of his day) asked him plainly what the 2 most important laws were Jesus told him plainly that the most important thing was Loving God and loving your neighbor and that by doing so, the laws and the prophets were fulfilled... In other words, do this and you fulfill God's command. The pharisee, being a cunning man, then asked Jesus who his "neighbor" was and Jesus responded telling him the parable of the good Samaritan. I understand you, I do. Most of us have been harmed by religious ppl in the past or get discouraged when you see ppl like the megachurch pastors on tv flaunting their wealth... But those ppl never knew God Or never practiced true religion. As I said earlier, true religion is pleading for the cause of the poor and the cause of the widow, not going to a building on a certain day and blabbering pointless repetitions pretending to talk to God

Dear AXP, Amanuel is one of the worst repeat callers that the show has had IN YEARS. His "arguments" have not changed AT ALL after six months of calling multiple atheist shows. He gets waaaayyy too much air time on these platforms for someone who has never called in with a sound argument. He doesn't call in to learn or have a meaningful discussion, he only wants to parrot what he believes week after week and has shown on multiple occasions how close-minded he is. He is a prime example of how religion can poison your brain. If religious indoctrination was a person it would be him. In conclusion, pllleeaaassseee put him on a 5-7 minute timer and if the call goes in the same direction as his previous calls then he should be dropped and given a 2-week time-out to go back to the drawing board to renovate his argument. I replied this to another post, but it applies to yours too: He's (amanuel) openly admitted he's aware he might not change any of the hosts' minds and calls in because it's his divinely assigned duty to keep trying regardless, and that not doing it would doom him to hell. Of course, he also believes in pre destination, so at the end of the day he might go to hell anyway, but he thinks he should live serving his god regardless. It's sad and pathetic and illogical, but in some ways, as much as some might find him annoying, he's also a regular reminder of what fanatic, blind faith leads someone to sound like.

I was born in Ireland to an Irish Catholic family and had to go to Mass every week, confession too, communion, confirmation - at no point, even from the age of three, did I ever believe any of what my parents and family believed and often used to openly mock it, in a slagging kind of way. And, that was even long before I saw a load of the stuff that was in the bible (catholics, rather sensibly, don't tend to bother with that book; because, it doesn't suit them for people to read it; because it's lies aren't well-constructed or convincing ones). When I flicked through the bible, none of its boring and earnest yet, also, culty characters moved me in any way, other than Zachias, and that was only because I interpreted it as him spotting Jesus and his boring wankers coming towards him and climbed a tree to avoid them; but, was spotted and harangued and had to invent a cover story. For secondary education went to a state school in England and, in RE, they taught us about all of the main religions of the world. At the time, I realised that they were doing it with the laudable goal of showing us that there was a plurality of beliefs in our society and we should respect all. However, I also thought that, if they wanted us to respect these eegits, then they shouldn't tell us the stupid things they believe in. To this day, I still mock everyone else's deeply held stupid beliefs (it's fun!) andO encourage them to do the same to mine. I even list them for them: 1. Plausible stuff. It's a short list.

When I got to sixth form, there were some Christians, and these were, like, actually bothered one way or another - they would meet once a week and they would even invite evangelist scammers from America to come in and evangeliize at them, and they would go on something called crusader camps, and everything. Of course, I used to take the mick out of their god and their Jesus and their beliefs and what have you - it amused me, it amused them, too. Anyway, one day one of them said something like: if you say the lord's prayer backwards in front of a mirror, then the devil's face will appear in a mirror; so, I decided to try it and see if it worked. So, I wrote out the Lords prayer backwards and went into the gents and started reciting it the mirror. A friend of mine who was also atheist and seemingly enthusiastic was there, standing half in and half out of the door. He kept losing his nerve and going out and coming back in, which I found odd. I reached the end of the recitation and, naturally, the devil's face appeared in the mirror. So, I went and told the Christians that they were right, and, what's more, he looks the spitting image of me, except that I have a dark freckle on my right cheek and he had one on his left cheek.

I think that's the work of skepticism, rather than atheism. Atheism is just the lack of belief in deities, and an atheist could have that position for wacky reasons. In reality, most atheists base their position on insufficient evidence for deities. But even among us with that basis, there are anti-vaxxers, racists, misogynists, homophobes, transphobes, etc.

Thank you Forrest for telling the story about Adam and Eve and how the God character lies the the serpent tells the truth. That of itself tells any discerning reader that the original sin was committed by the God character not the woman or the man. Plus the god character wants people to stay stupid so they will worship it. At least it got something of a win there with so many people preferring "faith" over "knowledge and facts".

Right?! I fucking love pointing out that God lied, but then people start wiggling around in the context or the symbolism like 'They died spiritually' or something like that. Some people even dare say that God did not create the serpent but Satan did, which is not true at all because Genesis 3:1 literally says God was the one that created the serpent. It is such a bafflingly weird story.

Seth is SO right. When I was a Christian I most DEFINITELY was is an abusive relationship with God. I needed to be the person God wanted me to be. My own feelings or wantings where sinful! Always! I never learned who I was... only who I needed to be. And my WHOLE social context was applauding this attitude! But when I lost my faith I was nobody. I didn't know who I was or what to do and I came to realize... of this would have been a relationship with a man... this would have been SO differently perceived! But because God is good and prefect and supposed to know you better than you know yourself... everything is permitted! It's Russian roulette really... Greetings from The Netherlands

For the "Change one word" challenge, I'd change shalt to shan't in any of the 10 commandments. Like "Thou Shalt Not Kill" To "Thou Shan't Not Kill".... In other words, "Kill". Same with adultery, covet, steal, lie about someone in court. If anyone is confused, shan't is the proper contraction of shall and not. So thou shall not not kill is the same as saying, Thou shalt kill. In other words.... Kill. In the bible, you can get a lot of mileage from changing shall to shan't.

In response to Niko: As a person born with a disability I can stand firmly to let you know that you are wrong. I was born with Spina Bifida, my mother was given the choice when I was born by the medical staff to let me die, the method would have been starvation, they just wouldn't have fed me. My mother was even advised to let me die. (It was just how it was back then). I spent most of my childhood in a wheelchair. Though I can walk today, I cannot run. If a bus came in my direction, I could not get out of the way. I can't walk on hard surfaces, I have to wear flip flops (this is what you call them in the USA). I grew up having to wear callipers/leg irons, this affected me the most as a teenager wanting to wear beautiful shoes. To this day I can't wear heels...this probably saves me thousands of dollars though lol. My right foot is triple fused, the other double, so where you guys can walk and your foot bends, my feet do not. Painful surfaces to walk barefoot include (but not limited to) tiles, lino, even thinner carpets. I can walk on thick grass and sand, that is really about it. At the age of 17 I had life saving surgery because I had 3 months to live, this surgery caused me to not be able to have children. I've had 47 surgeries in total (correctional surgeries, only the one life-saving, fortunately) and number 48 is due in just a couple of weeks time. There are many worse than me, but I can scream at the top of my lungs that how you approach life, no matter what it throws at you is a choice. You can choose your attitude and to focus on what brings you love and joy. There are many worse that probably have a better attitude than me. When I visit my specialist, I meet many who have my surgery every 4 months (I'm just once a year). I meet others that are way worse than me and they still manage to treat the medical staff with kindness and patience, with a smile and gusto for life that many will never experience. In the end, we are ALL met with challenges, NOBODY gets through this life challenge-free. So we are no different, just a different set of challenges. I'm fortunate that in my lifetime I questioned my religious upbringing and was able to determine that so much of it did not follow logic and even if it did, it was so against the grain of who I am as a human being who cares about others in this world. Understanding that a magical place after death did not exist gave me the gusto to make my lifetime count, no matter how long that would be, I turn 52 this year and I'm proud of the person I am, the life that I created and built around me. Don't EVER UNDERESTIMATE a person you see across the street with a disability, because they could have a whole lot more BIFFO for life than what you think they may have. I believe I'm well within my rights to respond to you as one of the many, many, many that aren't just going through life, 'existing'. Your words really upset me, that's why this post has come across as a rant.

I learned that when I did something unexpected, Spilled the milk, broke the window, pissed off my Dad, pissed off my teacher, their response was to beat, strap, call me down. So when some one pissed me off, pushed me out of line, called me stupid, set me up to be caught by the teacher (yeah I was stupid) all my return to punch them , hit them punish them I just got punished more, no matter how hard the teacher or my Dad hit me I hit back just as hard until one day I was bigger then my Dad and he cried out, STOP! If you kill me I can't come back and say it was a mistake we have to settle our differences or one of us will end up dead. Then I realized that when I turned fifteen my Dad became reasonable and only needed to beat him once ,I did not need to beat him twice to get his attention and have his respect. I finally won an argument without getting beat to an inch of my life. Learn to win your battles without killing someone. Stand up for yourself they will eventually back down, one way or another.
