Even though they might've said something horrible themselves or even committed a crime. Take this attitude to an extreme, and you get a dictator who literally kills you for criticism. Rome is such a liar. He said that when Everett got in his face and challenged him to say it for 3rd time, "in hind sight", that was his snap-reaction. So he is blaming Everett for it happening. And you can tell by Rome's arrogance when he said that it was regrettable that it happened without taking any responsibility. Then Rome said, I've called him that before off the show and I was not going to not call him that. So obviously Rome had every intention of calling Everett, Chris. Rome deserved what he got. Man I feel like Stuart broke that shit down best. Addressing what it did for the relationship between talent and media, and also the fact that Jim was essentially challenging his man hood. While it may be petty, the ego/pride will have you flip a table to prove "just how much of a man you are".

Nah Stuart Scott was completely wrong on that. While there are some people who are too sensitive, a grown man calling you a girl to your face and essentially calling you a b**** for years is grounds for a slapping. Only those who want to be able to say whatever they want without any repercussions believe that you're sensitive for retaliating that way.
@KClouisville

@@cheyenne11114 This. As you say, it wasn't like they just met for this interview and Rome jokingly said it one time. It went on for a long time to begin with and Rome, when face to face with Everett, was essentially saying "I'm saying it. What are you going to do about it?" Rome is the smaller, less intimidating guy.....but that's bullying behavior....and it's never wrong for bullying behavior to be responded to like this.

Chris evert was a female tennis player so my assumption is that Rome is saying that Jim Everett plays like a girl. The thing I noticed was that Everett didn’t even look upset at the insult but his facial expression gave you a hint that he was annoyed. Once he starts getting physical after being called it the third time his expression changes.

@@MikeWilkesPhoto I’ve got no doubt in my mind that Rome was contacted, and declined pressing charges - which was his right to do. People who can’t control their emotions ions, and are ruled by them are pathetic. Anger never justifies violence, but, apparently, that’s news to you. It’s ironic to hear you say how Rome “disrespected” Everett. Guess what, Everett disrespected himself. He sat there, and took the bait. Then, he overreacted, and risked a career and lifestyle that only the upper 1% enjoy. Why? Cause he got all tangled up in his feelings. Again, it’s pathetic. Everett was 6’5”, 215 lbs, while Rome was 5’9”, and around 160 lbs. Please, explain to me who Everett was gonna impress by kicking Rome’s ass?!?? 😂😂 The only thing Everett showed in that situation was a complete lack of self control, while putting a lucrative NFL career at risk…..because, as you said, he was “disrespected”. That’s an idiot’s mentality.

Jim Rome was an immature douche. Notice he later said "the situation was regrettable" and "better judgment could have been used"... That phrasing is important because it shows Rome taking no accountability for his actions. I also disagree with Stuart Scott; Jim Everett needed to take care of business. At least demonstrate to other athletes why that show was one to avoid.

You had to understand the environment that was Rome's radio show in those days. His show was a lot more wild and open then it was when he signed to major league radio networks like Premier and CBS radio, where he's at now. If you listened to what his radio show was in the early 90's, it would blow people's minds today. Rome and the Clones ran smack constantly and it was a 4-hour show back then! Rome had a rep to protect amongst his fanbase and show, which is why he didn't back down from Everett. The Rome of today or even the late 90's wouldn't have done this. I'm not saying it was a smart move to get tossed off of his own set on live television, I'm just giving you the ins and outs of what the Rome show was back when it was mostly SoCal based and before he went to national syndication.
