Every now and then a movie comes out that just sticks with you and Aftersun is one of those films for me. While not necessarily the most entertaining film, its definitely one of the most thematically impactful movies I've seen in a long time. It's a movie that has received widespread critical acclaim and it's even more impressive considering this is the directorial debut from Scottish Director Charlotte Wells. The movie is technically sound, but where it really shines is in its ability to pull on the heartstrings. For me personally this is hard to do, but without wasting any more time, let me tell you exactly Why Aftersun Broke Me.
DISCLAIMER: This movie is quite heavy and does focus on the themes of depression and self harm. If you or anyone you know is struggling please understand that there are resources out there to help. We are all fighting battles, some harder than others and if nobody has told you to keep your head up, let me be that person. I have attached some information below for those in need.
