Great video, Janelle! I’m currently reading Death Comes as the End and really enjoying the Ancient Egypt time period and setting, although at the start I had problems with the names! 😂 The Sittaford Mystery is another stand alone I really enjoyed with the snowy setting 🥰📚

I need to re-read The Sittaford Mystery. The first time I read it, I had already seen the Marple adaptation and was confused by all the changes. I don't think I appreciated the mystery for the mystery itself.

Hi, Janelle. Very nice. I read and loved many standalones back in the 70s even before I started my Bantam hardcover collection. I really enjoyed them and was surprised at how much. I especially liked the 'espionage' books, very 'take me away' reads. So I agree with you; they are under appreciated.

Not everyone likes the espionage books because they are so different to other Agatha Christie books, but I really enjoy them.

The Pale Horse is my favorite Agatha Christie novel. I read it about 45 years ago! My copy became so ragged that I just bout the newest edition from Amazon...and re-read the book and loved it just as much. So atmospheric and the plot is so engrossing. Great video. I adore Agatha Christie!! I have read most of her work except for the Parker Pyne mysteries. Such lovely vintage editions of her books, hard to come by. My most favourite standalone is Death comes as the end, I enjoyed the historical details. I read she accompanied her husband on his archaeological digs, so fascinating 🙂. I am so glad to have found your channel (recs from reddotreads) , great content👍

Hi! Accompanying her husband on his digs gave her material for a number of her works. Murder in Mesopotamia and Appointment with Death especially.

Hi Janelle, I love this topic! I just talked about my collection in my last video and the pale horse an ordeal by innocence are ones I’ve never read and I’m going to read this month. Of the standalone I’ve read so far, Besides, and then there were none, my favorite standalone is endless night. So good! Aloha

I love the older editions like you have, I always try to grab them when I see them. I don't know how I don't own all her books by now! I'll be getting a vintage copy of The Pale Horse from my mom for my day next month. Don't think I've read it. The last time I read And Then There Were None (for the 4th or so time!) I read it on the beach at the water's edge when I helped move my daughter & her best friend to the Outer Banks, NC in 2021. It was the perfect setting to read it; if only there was a cliff there behind me with a lone big house... Enjoyed this video so much! I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of Endless Night when you get to it; I absolutely loved it! 🕵️♀️📚🥰

Totally agree that I’m confident no-one would argue against And Then There Were None being top! Yes yes yes to Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? It’s one of my top favourites and I wish Bobby and Frankie had been given another mystery or two to solve by Christie afterwards! Crooked House has to be one of the darkest, so much so that I refused to believe the evidence I was being shown as we went along! I did not enjoy They Came to Baghdad, it wasn’t my sort of book at all, maybe I should give it another go at some point. I do love The Pale Horse, so spooky and intriguing. So different from other Christie books! I really loved Ordeal by Innocence too, I read it when I was in Devon in Agatha Christie country so that worked well. Ooh interesting, Death Comes As the End. Not a favourite but I thought the setting work and the time period made it great fun. Just a perfect video for a Friday night! I really want to reread Towards Zero because I think that’s a stand out for me as well. 🕵️♀️📚

Very fun topic for a video. I really enjoyed ‘why didn’t they ask evans’ (beside and than there were none). I think death comes at the end is the only one I haven’t read yet and maybe the one about a tyrannic dad that takes place in Jerusalem -title escapes me- but I have to read that one to know. I’ve been reading Christie since I was 14 and really want to do a proper inventory soon of the ones I haven’t read yet.

I loved They Came to Bagdhad too. Similarly crazy is The Man in the Brown Suit and another of my favourites is The Sittaford Mystery set not far from me on Dartmoor. I haven't read Why Didn't They Ask Evans? so I must remedy that.

This is great! I definitely need to keep going with her stand alone. The adaptations for these are all over the place. I really didn't like the new adaptation for Why Didn't They Ask Evans? (2022). That said, I really did enjoy the adaptation of Ordeal by Innocence (2007), which they made into a Miss Marple (Geraldine McEwan). Often times, I use the adaptation to help me picture everything, especially locations and people, and then I keep close to the original book. The books are always better, but the costumes and sets of the movie version are so much fun.
