These age related math problems are for middle primary to Upper primary kids to improve their understanding of relational aspects and their application in Math word problems.
Relational aspects of two quantities could be sum, difference, times, ratio, fraction etc.
Age problems work on a few principles:
1. Sum of ages for "n" number of people increases over "t" years time by "n times t" years. Eg. If the sum of ages of 3 people is 40 years, then after 10 years, each one will have 10 years added to their age and the sum will be 40 + 3 times 10 = 40 + 30 = 70 years.
2. Difference of ages of two people always remain the same. So if the ages of A and B are 10 and 15 respectively and therefore their difference of ages is 15-10 = 5, then this difference will be always the same after the birth of both the people.
3. The ratio of the ages of the elder person to younger person keeps on decreasing with time but will be always more than 1. If two siblings have their ages as 10 and 1 years then the ratio is 10:1 but after 8 years the ratio will become 18:9 or 2:1 only.
