I was adopted and in foster care as well, until I was about 23. I certainly had my difficulties adjusting to the real world and independence without a lot of preparation for the real world. It’s often unfortunately about money, but I had people to mold and support me so I didn’t dvd up into homelessness or worse. I’m 33 now it’s still a journey but this is a heartbreaking and staggering statistic... @Mickey my fellow adoptee I’m so sorry for what you had to difficulty endure without a lot of support.😣

Not EVERYBODY has stable functional living relatives in the same part of the country. This was in Ohio.. Let's say these kids parents are dead or in jail. They have as example an elderly grandparent in Road island and an aut and uncle they met year back at a family reunion who are in the state of Washington.. Um.. See the point.. Not everyone has a stable family

Never trust the foster care system or the criminal system. All they do is made sure no Americans gets housing or jobs ever with their incarceration methods and they want everyone to go to life imprisonment.

I think it's the social worker and the foster parents fault that these kids are not ready for life, when they turn 18 or 21 that they don't have the life skills. It is the social workers do f****** diligence to make sure they are holding the foster parents feet to the damn fire so these kids are getting life skills they need. The social worker need go in and ask the questions and find out what the kids know how to do things on their own, do they have a bank account, do they know how to save and budget there money, do they know how to fill out an application for a job or college, how are the grades and if they're not doing those things then they need to be removed from the home and put in a home where the parents will do those things. This is their life and it is not a game

At their own expense YES. Just like parents can let thier children hang around the house until after they're 25 if they so choose. I have to ask HOWEVER.. How many upper middle class suburban adults are inclined to allow their adult children to keep hanging around the house and do next to nothing much past 18? I'm presuming that many would temperoraly.. But after 4 or 5 years they'd say.. You're 22 years old now you need to go to college.. Or get a job.. Or something.. You got a year or so left to get your crap together.. And that's with your own children.. You've raised all thier lives. You think children you haven't people are to be so inclined??? Likely NOT. And also ties in to what others have said 1) more minors behind them in line need placement and 2) government checks stop comming. So it's truly out of the pockets of the foster parents if they keep letting them hang around after a certin point.

I fell in love with a man twenty four years older than me, and he had a stable living situation that I could move in to. If I didn't meet him I would have been on the streets or they would have kept me until I was twenty one or longer against my will. Being in the group home, and residential was like being in jail. I miss my childhood so much I could have done I did not get to do. My advice to women, and guys in this situation date someone older it helps. The people your age are not going to take relationships or living arrangements seriously. I also did not sign up for any loans college, car, or home without money. I would be digging my own grave in debt.

This is very sad but keeping children in foster care beyond the age of 21 will only make the corrupt foster care agencies richer. If were up to many group homes and foster homes they would keep it's residents till the age of 30 or 40.But never give them the vital life skills they need to make it in life.

@@princesse0920 it's not that hard to get a job lmfao. Teens in some homes start getting summer or weekend jobs at 14-16. General public school education teaches you enough to get an entry job. There are even cheap online programs towards certificates.
