My father landed his B29 there after WWII and I was stationed there in '71-'2. The sea life on the isalnd and in the lagoon made for some fantastic experiences and photographs. The scuba diving was better than I have ever experienced. Huge desalination plants provided water for those stationed there, but everything was razed in the late '90s. Hopefully, the sea and wildlife will reclaim the area over the next 100 years.

The channel ExploreOrDie has a tour of the main island from 2019 which could be of interest.

Oh woa. Are those deeper blue ridges at the end dredged up seabed from building the artificial islands? Or from some kind of mineral extraction?

For building the artificial islands and enlarging the main island.
