Thank you for saying that most dogs aren't dog park dogs. I needed this. ❤️

Dog parks are a recipe for an emergency Vet visit. People like this just keeps taking their dog to a dog park and expect different results. Run you dog for 3 miles tire her out then you might have a chance at her not fighting.

Hey. Thak you sir for opening my eyes up and helping me understand that my 6 year old Rescue black labrador is selective at the dog park about which dogs he enjoys playing with and which dogs he does not like to play with , now i know this information , i know now that if there is a dog my dog * i refer to as my son* does not like or want to play with then all i needa do is remove him from the dog park until the dog's he dont like or dont want to play with have left the dog park , this now tells me i dont know how my boy is going to be unless i give him a chance to say hi to the other dogs. 1 thing i personally do sometimes is i will have my dog on the leash in exchange for giving the other dog time to enter the dog park go sniff sniff look around once the owner removes the leash off the dog and the other dog takes 2 steps or so then i will remove the leash and let my dog run around and play

Well, I feel like I got my answer from this video, even though I don't like it. My Yorkie seems to just not be a dog park dog anymore. My 15 month 10 lb Yorkie mix has been more and more aggressive at the dog park lately. My parents have her sister, and I drop off my dog there everyday before work. Since a puppy, she always was the submissive one, though she seems to now be the one bossing her sister around. At first, I brought her to the dog park around 8 months and she loved it. As of the last few months, she has started snapping at other dogs approaching her, especially if she's guarding a toy. I noticed she'll be very friendly for the first hour, however after that, she'll start getting snappy with other dogs, especially if it's new dogs coming in. Now, it seems she'll snap at any dog overly energetic. (She seems better with calmer, low energy dogs, despite being a very high energy dog herself) She loves playing keep away with toys with people, and will allow allow humans to take whatever is in her mouth, but will chase away any other dog who comes close. Most recently she picked a fight (as you say, loud argument) with a dog who accidently kicked her while playing fetch. I've been wondering why she's been whining and shaking as I have been nearing the dog park the last few visits, I guess she just doesn't like it anymore.

Thank you so much for posting this video. That letter was exactly my dog. And now she’s two. She never did this when she was a puppy but was submissive. She got attacked in the dog park and now she does not like certain dogs and she goes on the defense mode. So she’s not going back to the dog park.

THANK YOU! So much Just a clarification Half of the time that she has been aggressive is when we just let her say hi to dogs when we were on walks around our neighborhood we have never kept her on a leash at a dog park she has gone into two fights at a dog park but the other times were just when we were on a walk and one time is when she was on leash on a walk and an off leash dog ran up to her we stopped taking her to dog Parks when she was about one year and three months and to answer your question when she was at a dog park she was aggressive to other dogs when they ran up to her or when is sniffing her for some reason she really does not like when dogs sniff her or when there was multiple dogs surrounding her and then when we were on walks it’s when we let her say hi to the other dog but sometimes at the dog park she would just run up to a dog that did not even initiate it and then snap but most the time not but we have not taking her to a dog park in a very long time so I don’t completely remember everything and also there is two dogs in our neighborhood that she likes to play with one of the dogs comes to our house about four times a week and they play pretty well but sometimes a bit too rough there used to be like five dogs in our neighborhood that she would like to play with but now she has gotten aggressive with some of the dogs Some dogs that she likes are tiny dogs that like to roughhouse and dogs that are very calm and don’t really acknowledge her Thank you for making a video on my questions!

I have a 10 month old husky that I take to the park regularly. He is intact. He has been going to the park for about 4 months with no issues. Just recently he got in a minor altercation with an older husky who is also intact. They are both larger huskies. My dog then stayed very close to me and started showing defensive behavior such as growling and tried to back away. The other owner stated that him coming to me was an issue. Is this true? And if so, what can I do to stop this before it becomes a real problem?

Hi Tommy. Thanks for your great tutorials. I am having trouble introducing my 4 month old Lagotto to other dogs we meet in the park. I understand this particular breed may have this problem, as well as not accepting other people as well. My pup will greet "most" people depending upon their approach, but seems to want to play with other dogs but when they approach he runs away in a panic. help. TIA

If you have a vicious dog, and you know it's a vicious dog, please do the rest of us a favor. Keep your dog out of dog parks; it's not fair to the properly trained and properly socialized dogs and their owners.

Hi, my frustrated greeter now 16 months old entire lab had a sore leg from 6 months to 14 months and was unable to play with other dogs and we had to limit his exercise. He also had a lot of run ins with loose dogs in the street when he was on leash. His leg is now ok. I very slowly introduced him to 2 other dogs (using parallel walking and approach/retreat advancing at heel only while he was calm) so now he has 2 dogs he plays with, his neutered brother (different owners) in my back yard, one in its backyard (5 yr old entire male collie) or and one other occasionally both in my yard and hers (3 year old female neutered gun dog mixed breed). But from very far away he's still super reactive and easily goes over threshold if he sees a dog. I am avoiding all other dogs at present except his play date dogs because it's too hard to control situations 'in the wild' and the town I live in has a lot of unsupervised, loose dogs. When I do walk him in town I stick to industrial type streets where I can be reasonably sure not to run into dogs. There are no dog trainers around here. And no doggy day cares etc. He is friendly with dogs off leash (but tries to be dominating and prefers to chase than be chased). On leash though he can see a dog 100 metres away and start to react if the duration is too long and it is very hard to get his attention. When he goes over threshold he barks and lunges. He's a great dog in all other ways! Given his young age is it possible his reactivity will reduce as he ages if I maintain this regime?

I got my dog at around 1.5 years of age from a shelter and brought him to a dog park. He was submissive and scared at first but now he's gained confidence. However I've noticed he's gotten into more and more aggressive fights. Not always him as th culprit; other dogs always size him up and try mounting. One fight in particular was very scary, he went running behind a dog immediately and was very vocal. I took him away. he'll be absolutely fine with some dogs and not as fine with others. Lately after spending some time at the park he'll turn aggressive even to the dogs he hadn't had a problem with ever before, or the ones that have been just fine there for 10 minutes. Just out of nowhere. He loves coming to the dog park (it's right next to me and he whines when we pass it) so I'm confused on what to do with this behavior.

@@christine9880 I've stopped taking him to the dog park (we moved and don't have one around here) but we have play dates and he does much better 1 on 1 with dogs, and the more he gets to know them the more comfortable he is. I learned he's a really rough player but that's just his play style.

Hi I have a dog named Mickey hes a German shepherd pitbull mixed And after may 12th of 2022 his birthday he had received his rabies shots and every other shot that I haven't missed Last year So I decided to take him to the dog park because it seemed to be safer now that he was all up-to-date he is neuteredSo I don't have to worry about him having babies I decided to take him to the dog park and at 1st it was going good but all this setting heats turned on a dog dog and then it turned into 2 dogs and then it turned into a male dogs so I thought I don't know what it is but it's certain male dogs that he does not like majority the time they are younger than him So I thought to myself well maybe hes just a little lonely I should get a new dog so I did And he gets along with him great he is also Neutered I take them both to the dog park And now every time another male dog gets near us My kids me and my other dog Kota He will continue to target other dogs and watch them the whole entire time where at the dog park he decided to one day attack a defenseless dog who was not paying attention to him and bit a hole through his nose Every since then I took him to Petco immediately put a muzzle on him because I did not know what to do So now if there's another male dog in the dog park that is not Kota I have to put a muzzle on him I did find out that it's only certain dogs hes aggressive too I can't even pet anyone else's dog at the dog park unless they're female I have no way of understanding thisIt kinda makes me worry And it doesn't seem like there's anything wrong when we go home he acts so normal And I don't want to stop taking him because I think it's unfair For something's he used to everyday

My 10-month-old Corso has been at this park since he's eight weeks super confident and very intrusive but overall good temperament he turned 10 months the other day and he's quick to fight he generally doesn't generate them although that seems to be changing too The other day he had a mix up with some husky friends and when I broke it up he couldn't let it go The other dogs were prepared to move on he seemed genuinely angry and struggled to finish the fight, which I thought wasn't a dog trait , holding a grudge. I know corsos can get this way this is why a socializing I wasn't expecting it till he was around two I think I'm no longer socializing him as much as letting him hang out with his rowdy friends any thoughts? And thank you I really like the way you break things down. PS he's definitely an alpha I think part of the problem is I haven't communicated that I'm the alpha well enough when he was 8 weeks old he came in my house walked up to my full-grown French Mastiff took her bone growled and walked off I knew we were in for trouble lol I just want to set him up for success really any thoughts or preciated. I should also mention that I'm up in New Mexico working for half a year there's a lot of reservation dogs out here a little ferrell and very defensive that's not worked in his interest
