The Aggressive Horse
Read then Listen to the Video🎥
The way a horse responds to emotional stress is unique to each horse (same with people). It depends on many factors such as past experience, breed, genetics, gender etc.
This young black mare has a difficult stress pattern. She typically braces, then lashes out. It has made basic handling of her difficult and dangerous.
This video shows her stress pattern in action and how she struggles to cope emotionally with what is happening to her. But with the help of round penning she changes. The brace, aggression and dissociation disappear and she begins to move with fluency between her mind and body. Plus she starts to demonstrates understanding and forming the ability to focus and remain engaged.
Why can round penning do this?
Firstly, it simple - it starts with just go forward in a chosen direction.
Secondly, there is space. That makes it safer to work such a horse prone to aggression. And the mare has space to move away from instead of being attached and restrained by a halter and lead.
Thirdly, it involves physical movement. Physical exercises is therapeutic for emotional and mental stress. I call this "canter therapy"! It inspires breathing, reduces stress hormones and triggers endorphins release.
This footage shows how these things kick in over the 35 minute session and how she mentally, emotionally and physically transforms.
This beautiful mares reputation as dangerous and difficult will now come to an end now that her education and psychological nurturing has begun❤
