Hey Dr. Andrew, I have a 12.5 year old Standard Poodle. One of the most helpful "Natural Remedies" I've tried that has helped is CBD Oil mixed with Natural Honey, some Apple Cider Vinegar, etc. I must say it has helped his anxiety and appetite tremendously, as well as one the fatty cysts on his chest is literally shrinking. I can tell you're in Canada, I'm in So. California. Let me know if you're interested in the brand I buy, etc. THANK YOU so very much for supporting I and teaching a more "natural" approach to family care (since my dog is part of mine).

We had cannabis oil CURE the huge 10 lb tumor my dog had in his belly. Incredible. He was dying and "traditional" medicine had no answers. He got back his health and his energy in a few months time by taking 3 drops of oil 3x day.. Too bad the whole USA won't support a simple and natural cure that is demonized by the Big Pharma industry. THEY don't want cancer cured!

I believe diet from early at the start is the most important.... my dog is on a fresh diet( NO kibble) she has fresh meat with kale/ broccoli /sweet potato/ apple/coconut oil and bone broth...some brown rice so it's quite wet .. She has fresh breath and her coat is so shiny her health is paramount to us we want the very best long life for her and I am convinced this diet is the best 👍❤️

I cook Toby's food, (my Maltipoo). In a large pot, I COOK chicken breasts (you can use chicken thighs instead) in water until FULLY cooked and tender. Remove the chicken from the chicken broth. To the broth add a good brand of rice, and cook to just under the fluffy stage. Add the frozen vegetables (if you use canned vegetables, you could drain off the liquid and cook the chicken, or rice, in the vegetable liquid. You may have to add enough water to cover the chicken or rice.) and continue to cook until the chicken is tender. Chop or shred the chicken into small bite-size pieces, and add it to the vegetable-rice mixture, mixing well. Allow the chicken-vegetable-rice mixture to cool. Pour into a dish that has a snap-on cover and refrigerate. I give 1/2 cup of this to Toby for his morning meal. I always cook extra chicken and chop it into bite-size pieces to give Toby as a treat. He looks forward to getting a small treat after going out to potty, or as rewards for obedience. For his night-time meal, I give him organic kibble (CRUNCHIES to keep his teeth clean). Toby is about 10 years old, yet other dog owners tells me that he acts like he is only 3 years old. Oh, and if you make a large batch of chicken and vegetables, you can put some into quart zip-lock freezer bags and freeze until needed. This saves a lot of time and it keeps its consistency very well.

I feed my 11 year old yorkie raw. He eats the same as his been eating the past 3 years. Just switch between beef, lamb, chicken, turkey. Maybe cut down on the bones. You want around 55% lean meat, 30% bone matter, 5% vegetables and 10% offal, like liver and heart etc. A SUPER FOOD for dogs u can try adding a couple times a week is GREEN TRIPE. It has EVERYTHING your dog needs. Just make sure u get the green tripe and not the white bleached ones. I give my dog raw sardines twice a week too and also coconut oil, colloidal silver in their water and also in their shampoo.

My ophthalmologist gave my poodle optixcare eye drops for the dry eye (one drop 4 times daily) and optixcare pink tube for cataracts (5 min after optixcare each time) at age 11 when the eyes started changing (running, small cataracts coming) and hence she can still see perfectly today at 15. Amazing stuff! I learned they don’t have to go blind, and with ophthalmology checkups (the health of the entire body shows in the eye) they are able to see and diagnose things like high blood pressure, which they did with my pup, ultimately saving her life. I recommend an ophthalmologist checkup yearly. Their entire health shows in their eyes!

She gets playful a few times a day and ending up on her back waiting for her belly rub. She walks slow as she sometimes forgets the lay out and is tired of bumping her head. All hazards have been removed from her access. I have a total of 7 mini's..... THEY ALL BARK.... I have tried everything to get them to stop..... still does not work consistently ! I bring them in when they are having choir practice in the backyard!! An ambulance or police car.... ANY siren bell whistle.

happy birthday!! i love your natural aproach to dogs health!! my bfs dog Archie stinks he has bad,bad wind issues. we tried yogart & charcoal which worked for a while & he also gets the runs a lot. we have to change his food every few months to help prevent it but hes always having issues. its really embarracing. hes a staffordshire bull terrier/pitbull & hes about 7yrs old & hes getting grumpy too!! hes lost teeth thru playing too hard & had a burst blood vessel in his ear which has never healed up properly & were also worried that hes just so skinny even tho he eats 2-3× what my dog of the same breed & size eats. my dogs 4 & really healthy bar his ears get infected all the time. i used diluted apple cider vinegar to clean them & put antibacterial cream on after which really helped but hes just always had it. our vet just gives anti inflamatorys which have no long term effect. sorry for tge long message but our vets just fob us off & its the pdsa in the uk so cant change vets. thankyou for your time.

Thank you Dr. Jones. My old girl is a 15 yr old shepherd with hip displaysia. I want her to live as healthy and comfortablly as long as possible. Now I have a dilemma. Her blood urea level is 57 mg/dl. & the right side of the heart is enlarged. I medicate for the hip and heart. Contraindications are to not administer either med for kidney issues. The pain at times is so intense that I have to use Rimadyl in extreme pain, but normally Algen. Naturopathics like flaxseed oil or boswelia glucosomine do not seem to be powerful enough to neutalize the pain at this point, and hence my dilemma.Use pharmaceuticals to numb the pain but damage the kidneys or continue to use natural products which no longer seem to work but which do no damage the kidneys and let her live with a higher level of pain. The way I look at it is my choice is not to use the pharmaceuticals and have to put her down next week from the pain or perhaps administer the pharmaceuticals and get perhaps another 2-3 months from her. I chose the latter.

Thanks Doc, my girl is pushing 16. I have never had a dog this long and it's been a beautiful experience. She has had a bit of a rough time. She was hit by a car around 3 it broke her leg and that has bothered her from time to time. She had a ear hematoma about the age of 11 and the a stroke around the age of 13. And last week because her eyes have gotten so bad she fell off a step and broke a tooth. All in all she has been a real trooper. Over the last couple of months she has decided that she is supposed to pee in the house, and she as been eating less and less, sleeping more and more. I have never had a dog this long in my life and I don't want to fail her. She don't seem to be in pain but her lack of interest in eating worries me.

Veterinary Secrets great video love to watch them you have such great advice for us who love our pets. By the way I love your couch the color is beautiful and I love your pets I have a question I have a miniature dachshund that has been eating her poop ever since she was about 2 years old. I have switched her food several types which has not helped I even bought her pills from the pet store that are were supposed to help that did not. She does way 15 lbs and I'm worried because I cannot get her to lose weight. I feed her 3/4 of a cup a day she is not very active she is 8 years old and the only pet that I own. I am disabled so I don't move around a whole lot so she really does not get the exercise but I do have a backyard in a doggie door so she's able to go out as often as she wants. I try to pick up her poop twice a day but she noticed this and starts to eat it immediately after she goes to the bathroom why is she doing this please help me. Any advice?

Hi Jane, here are some of the symptoms Cognitive behavior issues include difficulties with spatial orientation (a sense of direction while moving around); problems with memory, learning, housetraining; and difficulty in recognizing and reacting to human family members.Pet owners have long been frustrated by age-related behavior changes, including house-training problems, apparent memory loss, disorientation, confusion, staring, wandering, getting stuck in corners, sleep disturbances (waking at the wrong time, sleeping unusually deeply, night pacing), restlessness, barking, separation anxiety, panting, drooling, obsessive licking, etc.Progression of clinical signs is so gradual that most owners fail to recognize the early stages. These changes are often written off as being due to normal aging. A recent study at the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine demonstrates how common these observations are: out of 69 dogs participating, 32% of the 11-year old dogs were affected by this syndrome and 100% of the dogs 16 years of age older were affected.

Veterinary Secrets OK thank you for all the tips at least I know what is going on with my Pekingese I just wish my husband could understand that LOL but I will most definitely take him to the vet and see what they can do to help him I know A fact that he used to lick a little bit and when my husband was young because the dog came from his family part when he was younger he used to tease the dog but he slow down and knew how to slow down but now it's getting very aggravating because he does not know how to slow down because what I am saying is he used to lick just to lick his nose but no he got older he doesn't remember to slow down

I had a cocker spaniel that lived to 20 years old. I did a lot of what you were discussing except I didn't think to change her diet. I really believe she lived as long as she did because of the supplements and changes I made. My next little dog, the one I have now, has been fed a raw homemade diet with supplements since she was a puppy. She's now 7 years old and still has the energy level of a very young dog. Her weight is perfect and her teeth are healthy! She is so much more healthy than any animal I've had previously. It takes a little extra effort, but it's worth it! I won't EVER go back to kibble for my kids with fur! 😁

@@TrainerCTZ Thx! Good luck with your fur baby. I've seen some info about a Pet Labs supplement for GI problems you might want to check out... It's supposed to help boost the gut microbiome health. 😊

I was told 4 years ago that my dog only has 2 weeks to live based on his kidney disease. I refused to accept that. I changed his diet to raw foods. No more kibble. I added many supplements and goats milk. I took him back to the vet fir a checkup on his kidneys. He was shocked that his levels were great and recovered. 4 years to this date, he is still doing great except he's old and now dealing with difficulties getting up. I started with all the supplements dr. Jones stated. Today is the first day he jumped on the couch. Vets and doctors don't know everything. Only you know your dog and your the best doctor.

Happy Birthday! I changed my senior dog's diet by almost eliminating kibble and saw a miraculous change. She is playful and bounces like she did when she was a puppy. Just makes me wonder about the garbage the dog food industry puts into food. Thank you so much! I love your updates.

There's a lot of junk that they put into dog food it's just a sin. It's so sad you think you're buying good stuff your actually buying junk whatever it says on the can most of it has been cooked up so high and Heat or whatever else has been packaged in 4 years is no good. So now I make my dog home food so far so good. I can't believe the company's just look for money and not saving a dog's life... I take it back I can't believe it

Same here. My shihtzu eats hard boiled eggs, veggies, quinoa and fish for majority of her diet. She gets a bit of green tea, chia seeds, and raw honey, as well as turmeric. She basically gets whatever I eat that is dog safe/healthy. She loves kale, and fruit as well. 😊

I love your couch, no, I WANT your couch! LOL Seriously, I just adopted my 11 years old Sheltie a few months ago and this video was very helpful, especially the part about diet. I am saving this video for reference. Someone had sold her at a garage sale just because she had a terrible flea infestation. I am so glad that she was bought just to be taken to a shelter that would take care of her and then allow me to continue as her BFF!. I am so blessed. Someone took time to train her properly when she was a pup and she is loved by everyone in my Senior Community.

Our Bailey has had lameness issues since he was eight years old. He’s now 13 and for the last 4 years or so we take along a wagon or sleigh on our walks and when he starts to limp, he rides. He’s still excited to go along and he likes watching the other dogs racing around. We love him very much and he’s still the boss.

I have a 14 year old border collie cross “lassie” who we rescued from a back yard breeder who was going to put her down at 6 weeks because she had rye jaw. Her jaw never affected her in any way all these years and she’s the sweetest smartest dog we have ever had. ❤
