A truly great idea. i adjusted the design so that I donit have to snap the tarp inside. I drilled 1/2" holes in each corner top and bottom. I installed plastic tarp grommets in these 1/2" holes to allow for a upper and lower loop of rope. Each rope is in one piece to create a loop to install the tarp (instead of snaps) for vacuuming leaves. I also added two pieces of 5/4 decking to wrap both loops once the tarp is in place. I used a short piece of mop handle with center drilled to allow for mounting. one "keeper" for the upper rope, one "keeper" for the lower rope up front. I installed two similar mop piece "keepers" to hold the rear "Pull" rope (without making a knot) during the vacuum process. Thanks for saving me hours of emptying my mow n vac.

That’s a great way of doing it. Rake is ok for me except I dump leaves at each of my big trees so I don’t have to mow or weedeat up to the trees and carrying the rake around is a pain. I could mount it on trailer, but I just don’t want to because I’m mule headed. I’m doing this before leaf season.

Waxing the inside may prevent the stuck leaves, I might get a plastic L shaped tray that fits inside to just have a rigged piece to pull out quick and toss it right back in without climbing in there to clip anything.

I treied this but the snaps dont work well and might be too small. I see magnets are now the choice but curious of pucture if what is used ir how connected to tarp. In additiong the rope seems to keep pulling off the targ and garments are not strong enough to take the pulls from emptying. Any ideas?

Thank you so much for this idea. I've been mulling around different ideas in my head and this one is far easier. I used magnets I got from Harbor Freight with eye hooks on the 2 top ones to hold the rope.

Thanks for the compliment. I too use magnets with eye hooks at the top corners and magnets near the front bottom corners to keep leaves from getting under the tarp. I also ran a aluminum angle on the tarp from left to right on top where the eye hooks are. Just makes it a little stronger. You must be south of me in Michigan. My leaves have been cleaned up for over a month. Thanks.

good vid. i have the same vac. i was gonna suggest magnets over snaps but it seems you did that already. my idea yet to be implemented is cut some 1" pvc pipes as rollers to fit across the bottom, then a piece of OSB cut to fit on the bottom over the rollers, and a piece of rope tied to the OSB. back up, tie rope to something, drive forward...reset system.

one addition i am doing this week. adding a 4"x 12" window to one side just below the top lip. when you turn the mower you can see how full the wagon is. if you over fill then you have to dig out the suction hose, goose neck etc and much more difficult to pull the tarp.

I did similar. Instead of snaps i bought a 24” long magnet from harbor freight for six bucks.. bolted it inside front top of the metal wagon. Tie wrapped a 24” piece 1” wide strip of metal banding to the tarp grommets . all else the same. I also bought a second 24” magnet . Screwed it to a 24” piece of 2x 4. I stuff this 2x4 inside bottom front corner and the magnet holds it to the wagon . helps hold the tarp to the wagon at the bottom.paint the 2x4 a bright color so when you pull out the leaves you don’t lose the 2x4. lol

These actually do a good job except the hose don't last.Just go online and order good hose when old ones are shot. also greatly improve vac power by filling in dead air space in front on adapter boot with blocks of wood bolted in to keep airstream more smooth.Doing that eliminates clogs from globs of leaves breaking loose from that dead air space.

Make sure the head of the screw is recessed in the magnet. I think I used 10/32 or 8/32 screws.

Hi kevin. I appreciate the compliments. Since I made the video I have made some improvements to my design. I added two magnets at the bottom of the front of the tarp. Leaves were getting under the tarp. I feel instead of using snaps the magnets may be a better solution at the top and bottom. I think these are the magnets I used. www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=34897246&cp=2568443.2568450.2628078.1259402 I can send you a photo of how I installed these if you want, It isn't rocket science. Do you have mulching blades? I bought one of these, but my shoot coming out of the mower deck gets clogged. It is full of fine, mulched leaves and my mower leaves a clean pass because the leaves are mulched, but my vac has no leaves in it
@fredwagar9130
4 жыл бұрын
Has it ever worked right. I do not have mulch blades but I doubt that would be a issue. If the trailer gets overfilled you may lose vacuum and may have to clean out the hose from the deck to the vac impeller. I try not to totally fill the trailer. You should have a TON of suction at your deck boot. If not, some piping is plugged. Let me know what you figured out.

Bought it used and only used with mulching blades. I either drove to fast or the mulching clogged it because the fine leaves could pack into the shoot versus mostly whole leaves not being able to pack

Are you getting tons of suction at the deck boot??? I vac mulched leaves no problem but I do have regular blades. I assume you have a side discharge deck. Does the grass shoot out the side ok without the vac attached??
@dtlove129

Yeah it discharges well. I didn't even realize it had mulching blades until this fall. It was leaving a very clean path, and so I thought it was vacuuming. Got off and the hopper was empty, so I realized it was mulching and discovered the shoot was clogged.
