On September 26th 2017, the floating engine room unit of the AIDAnova (AIDA Cruises) was towed on its way from the shipyard NEPTUN WERFT in Rostock Warnemünde (Germany) to the shipyard MEYER WERFT in Papenburg (Germany) through the Kiel Canal (Germany). A historic record was set up. Never before in the history of the 1895 opened Kiel Canal did such a wide vessel or self-floating vessel part pass through the Kiel Canal. This floating engine room unit of the AIDAnova is 42 meters wide and 120 meters long. The entry into the Kiel Canal was made on September 26th 2017 at 7 am in Kiel Holtenau and the exit at 6 pm in Brunsbüttel. The aerial views were taken from Holtenauer, Levensauer and Grünentaler viaduct.
The AIDAnova is built by shipyard MEYER WERFT for the cruise line AIDA Cruises and is to be delivered to the cruise line on 15.11.2018 in Bremerhaven (Germany). The AIDAnova will be the biggest cruise ship with around 183,900 GT, which was ever built in Germany by this time. The AIDAnova will also be the first cruise ship in the world to be powered primarily by LNG.
