The Aiki-Ken developed by Morihei Ueshiba (O'Sensei) is a method of using Japanese sword techniques to teach the principles of Aikido.
The 7 basic sword movements which form part of the Iwama Ryu syllabus were developed by Morihiro Saito for solo practice with a bokken (wooden sword).
1. Ichi-No-Suburi
Raise and cut downward.
2. Ni-No-Suburi
Raise and step back with the tip high, then step forward with a cut downward.
3. San-No-Suburi
Raise and step back with the tip low, then step forward and cut downward.
4. Yon-No-Suburi
Raise and step forward with a downward cut.
5. Go-No-Suburi
Guard and step forward off line with a downward cut.
6. Roku-No-Suburi
Guard and step forward off line with a downward cut, then shuffle forward and thrust.
7. Shichi-No-Suburi
Guard and step forward off line with a downward cut, then step forward with a thrust.
