Awesome! I can't stay in the seiza( kneeling ) position for the life of me... My knees hurt alot,I don't have the flexibility, and it looks so easy for everyone... Any tips?
@aikistudio111
Жыл бұрын
Great question! Developing the flexibility and strength to sit in Seiza may take a while depending on a few factors, age, natural flexibility, injuries etc… If you take the time to find out where you are tight and implement stretching those areas into your training, to develop your flexibility would be a good start! Knees and Ankles generally are where most struggle. Even seasoned Aikidoka will feel pain and tightness after sitting in Seiza for a prolonged time, it is definitely part of the training. Trust the process, keep training and in time you will find more comfortability in the position. A final note to consider, if you have bad knees, bad ankles, tight lower back etc… it may not be a good idea to sit in Seiza for too long. Adopt the same principles you benefit from Seiza such as keeping good posture, alignment and centre, and apply them to a more comfortable position such as sitting cross legged, from here you can intelligently, sensibly and incrementally up the time spent in Seiza, whilst maintaining growth with the same principles in a more comfortable position. This will develop your posture and centre, whilst sensibly developing your flexibility and strength without pushing your body unreasonably, in time you will find more capacity in the position. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask!

A little each day, then a little more. Lean back while in the position to stretch, slowly. Consider an anti-inflammatory diet.

Solo movements and weapons practice can be studied alone, however i would suggest joining. a school and fully embrace the totality of Aikido as a practice.
