I am glad all of you are enjoying or have enjoyed this video. I truly miss training with this man. I learned a lot from his method of teaching. I was blessed and honored to find his dojo in Tokyo. I recommend that if you ever decide to go to Tokyo to train - it would be in your best interest to find one of his 4 dojos. Misawa Aikido Juku (School)

This is just the right exercise for Beginners in every art where you use a Bokken. I teach this to my friends/students and the "wheel" which means all stances in a fluent rotation. If getting used to these 2 exercises - one has the basics to move on... Great Video, great Art, great People.

I was the parent. Looking back, I can laugh at it. My son turned out fine, at that age that was his way of saying “I’m ready to go”. He ultimately made it to the restroom with no accidents on the tatami mat or in the hallway. 😉

Thank you for uploading this video. My only question is when you were training, how many swings did he have you do for each stance? And in the beginning did he have you just do one stance? If so how many swing for the one stance until you were allowed to move on? Sorry for all the questions, I have my bokken and have been just doing my own thing, but really want to do it right. Thanx again

You have to pardon me for the late response. I am just starting to receive immediate notifications. I’m a little ol school - I post and simply keep it moving. In regards to your question. Misawa Sensei required me to do this exercise each motion 5x each. However when I moved to Nagasaki, Yamaguchi Sensei had me doing the exercises until my arms/shoulders were sore 🥵. Seriously, I would wake up the next morning unable to move my shoulder because it would be in so much pain.

@aikidoexpo Great video! I have a question... Is it possible or is it valid to use these exercises but starting with the bokken on the right side of the body? So that after drawing, the bokken is held with left hand on top and right hand below? I'm right handed, but I've felt much more control with my left hand leading

TaeKwonDo and Shotokon?
@carnix
6 жыл бұрын
Taekwondo (more or less translated as "The way of jumping, kicking and punching" or more generally "The way of the hand and foot") and Shotokan Karate ("house of waving pines" - the name given Sensei Funakoshi's style by his students after his death, he wanted it to be called simply "Karate"). Typically, Shotokan will teach bo techniques but is not traditionally a weapon-heavy art (the name Karate implies that: "Empty Hand"). Many dojos incorporate training in other weapons however (nunchaku, jo, even knives and swords). Similarly, weapons training is not a traditional part of Taekwondo, but again, many schools incorporate it anyway. Bo, especially, but also jo and escrima are very common, as are nunchaku. Regardless of all that - you should be asking your sensei rather than random people on the internet :)

Hello. Firstly, I apologize for my bad English. I would like to know what this "suburi" is called. It seems that Misawa "Sensei" says so, but I do not understand. Can anyone tell the name of this essential "suburi"? Thank you very much.
