+Brett Murphy Interestingly enough, it's not an original song. It was a choir song that he simply made more popular. And much darker with his instrumental arrangement. It was originally a much more upbeat tune played at churches. Now it sounds more at home in a funeral parlor, or zombie film. And you know what? I'm ok with that. I think this song was done the most justice when the Undertaker used it at Wrestlemaia ( I want to say 27, but can't really recall clearly ). It added thunder claps to the sound. Really brought out the dark vibe that this cover is known for. Just a shame that all future broadcasts of the event edited it out, replacing it with his usual theme.

I notice that a few folks have referred to their 'Our Daily Bread Ministries' biblical reading & the reference to Johnny Cash & this song. I read mine just a few moments ago & wow, what a blessing. Johnny Cash is my Mum's favourite singer but her cognitive function is diminished following a catastrophic fall in 2022. Now in a nursing home, she requires full time care & went from independence to requiring full time care due to one slip & trip. Yesterday was her 80th birthday & whilst she smiled throughout the day, she doesn't know where she is & often drifts in a confused way into past times. Despite my faith, I felt tearful today because I miss the robust & fiercely independent Mum of old. Johnny Cash was her favourite singer. So when I read today's message I immediately wanted to hear the lyrics of this hymn afresh. It sums up everything we need to know about the promise of God's resurrection & redemptive message, in the midst of human fragility & health decline. Before too long we may have the blessing of hearing Johnny's vocals alive again. Now wouldn't that be a joyous musical celebration!! Blessings to all & particularly to those inspired by today's reading & verse. From Aberdeen, Scotland 🙏

My Dad passed away last year, from chronic illness including a wounded liver. I’m so sorry for your loss. I know my Dad placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and has gone home to be with Him. We had this song play at his funeral. When that trumpet sounds, no grave will hold down the believers. We live because Jesus Christ died for us. ““Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed- in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-52

This song has a solemn air to it. I'm an Atheist and I love it. Though I view the lyrics as mere fantastic poetry... Still, insofar one take the lyrics seriously, it is a great illustration of religious wishful thinking. Perhaps Freud was right to note that the future of religious superstitions is ineradicable at least for as long as we fear death.

MrSidney9 I think Religion is more rooted in how developed human empathy and imagination is, we apply humanity to everything, even nothing. Just look at how we value our pets and fight for the rights of things that don't even feel.

Nathan C. We come from a line of pattern-seeking animals who tended to make Type I error( false-positive), attributing an agency where there's none: a hominid who tends to think that the rustle in the grass is caused by a lion ( a cause with intentions), whether he is wrong or not, tends to survive and reproduce more than the hominid who assumes that the rustle in the grass is due to the wind. So when the crop fails or an epidemics kills half of the people in the village, our ancestors assume it's the work of an agent. Being agents ourselves we naturally assume that those other invisible "agencies" operate in ways similar to ours, thereby anthropomorphizing them: they love, hate, get upset, can be appeased (through rituals); they even eat (sacrificial blood or praises and prayers). like you said, still now ,we tend to anthropomorphize anything, now, however, many of us do it knowing well that this is what we're doing, so we're less likely to deify a horse, a cow, but there are people who feel more connection to say a dog, than a fellow human. And... the abrahamic god is just an invisible superhuman who happens to be timeless and spaceless(whatever the helk that means)

MrSidney9 We're also great at filling in the blanks. Since we don't process external info fast enough our brain makes leaps based on past experience and understanding. Problem is, what we can naturally experience is limited.

MrSidney9 What some people don't understand is that even if we move away from organized religion as a culture in the west there will always be cults and personal superstition that crop up. It's part of the human condition.

There ain't no grave can hold my body down There ain't no grave can hold my body down When I hear that trumpet sound I'm gonna rise right out of the ground Ain't no grave can hold my body down Well, look way down the river What do you think I see? I see a band of angels, and they're coming after me Ain't no grave can hold my body down There ain't no grave can hold my body down Well, look down yonder, Gabriel Put your feet on the land and sea But Gabriel, don't you blow your trumpet 'til you hear it from me There ain't no grave can hold my body down Ain't no grave can hold my body down Well, meet me, Jesus, meet me Meet me in the middle of the air And if these wings don't fail me I will meet you anywhere Ain't no grave can hold my body down There ain't no grave can hold my body down Well, meet me, mother and father Meet me down the river road And momma you know that I'll be there When I check in my load Ain't no grave can hold my body down There aint no grave can hold my body down There ain't no grave can hold my body down

check all the bitterness from folk just because a wrestler had the audacity to be a gateway for some to get a taste of johnny cash. Who gives a damn why folks are liking this song, or why they came to like this song, its the song itself that keeps folks coming back to need to be a jackass about it all ffs

I am happy for Johnny. In his later life he saw Jesus. He asked him to save him. That is so real, so vibrant! Christ was his focus near the end. Johnny was never a bad man, he just needed a focus. He found it. Praise the lord he found it near the end. We have all loved Johnny and we must rejoice. He saw the Lord.
