localtion: Palam, Delhi Cantonment. New Delhi-110 010Timing: 10.00am to 5.00pmClosed: Monday & Tuesday.Attractions:A collection of aeroplanes & armoury depicts the history of the Indian Air force & has a vast collection of aeroplanes and armoury on display.
The museum entrance welcomes visitors with an indoor display gallery showcasing historic photos, memorabilia, uniforms, and personal weapons of the Indian Air Force, dating back to its beginnings in 1932. This gallery leads to a hangar where smaller aircraft and various Air Force items, like anti-aircraft guns, vehicles, and other equipment, are exhibited. Larger aircraft are displayed outside the hangar in an open-air gallery that also features war trophies, radar equipment, and captured enemy vehicles. The museum also operates the Vintage Aircraft Flight, which services and maintains rare aircraft, keeping them in flying condition. However, these aircraft are not usually open to the public. Large transport aircraft are stored on the airbase apron due to limited space and are displayed only during the annual Air Force Day on October 8. The museum also has a small shop selling souvenirs. To enhance the presentation and preservation of historic aircraft, the Indian Air Force decided to move the museum to a more spacious and accessible location. A new site, covering 43 acres near the airport's domestic terminal, was selected. The foundation stone for this project was laid on December 1, 2006, by Air Chief Marshal SP Tyagi, the then Chief of Air Staff. The upcoming Aerospace Museum will feature both indoor and outdoor displays. The outdoor area will have aircraft displayed as if they are in flight, with murals creating the atmosphere of their operational era. There will also be a special area for children, where they can explore the cockpits of the displayed aircraft. In October 2020, bids were invited for the construction of the new museum, with an estimated cost of 240 crores.
