Even though I didn't get to see the ThunderBirds in San Antonio, TX. It's good to know that it's an American Tradition to give thanks to all med staff around the United States! I myself am a first responder! I work for the State of Texas! Texas Department of criminal Justice! We put ourselves in harm's way every day & night! God bless everybody and may God take over this virus and lead us in the right direction in life!

As a frontline healthcare worker, every time I see a story about these military flyovers that are meant to honor and appreciate us as first responders, I can’t help but to be frustrated, disgusted, and discouraged. Why? First, I must say that I greatly appreciate every member of our Armed Forces and the great sacrifice they make each and every day. I also appreciate the symbolic unity and encouragement that this gesture is meant to represent. However, I feel that it is being used to score political points and serve as somewhat of a distraction. But more importantly, simply think about the amount of money spent in organizing these events, with fuel, security, personnel, etc. But yet, in the hospital where I work providing care to very ill patients in an emergent setting, we still do not have one single rapid (1 hour or less) testing machine in our entire hospital! We are still drastically limiting the number of patients being tested due to severe test and testing supply shortages, yet we are opening our hospital back up for non-emergent elective procedures and surgeries. Originally, we were assured that before our hospital took this major step, we would test every outpatient who came in for their elective procedure prior to that procedure being performed. We are now being told that this policy is being disregarded due to the severe lack of testing capacity. This is yet another failing of every person in our community, but also our country as a whole. We still have NO testing options set up within our hospital for healthcare workers when we get sick, and we are STILL having to use and reuse the same PPE‘s all the time. These flyover events not only miss the point of honoring those putting their lives on the line, but in my opinion is also being used as a distraction from the true number of infections and the death rate that keeps climbing every day. Do you want to say thank you? Honor those on the front line? How about providing basic necessary equipment and testing. I really don’t think that should be too much to ask in a country as advanced as we are. Give us the tools that we need to protect others as well as ourselves!

@DV8 *** It has nothing to do with airshow training. Those pilots did not join the military to fly at airshows. They can be deployed at anytime into a combat zone. Whether it's flying at an airshow or doing these flyover in major cities, it is all training that they must have, to be the best at what they do. Flying aircraft worth 10s of millions of dollars is an extremely demanding job. Those skills they learn are perishable. It is essentially that they constantly train.

DV8 *** again it has nothing to do with air shows. Do you think they will just sit inactive for months on end? They would still be flying regardless. Also the Navy and Air Force officially said “Pilots must execute a minimum number of flight hours to maintain proficiency. These flyovers will incur no additional cost to taxpayers”.
