I had no idea air compressor fitting were literally just threaded onto the outside of the hose. I always assumed they were crimped or flared or sealed or something.

Well most consumer grade stuff is crimped. Only professional equipment has this kind of fittings.
@Buck_Fiden658

man ty... I was wondering how the hell that fitting was held on. I saw no threads just him twisting it on. I too only thought they were crimped on. I also considered a flange in the quick connect he screwed into the fitting but it seemed kinda far fetched too. lol appreciate the input!
@muffinproject

Not *just* on the outside. There's a long part with threading that goes on the inside. That way the hose gets squished in between the two threads.
@KLOKSLAG1911

Not always possible or practical in a big shop. That hose is probably plumbed into a hard line 30’ above the floor. You’d have to shut down and bring in a man lift just to get to the other end. Half a day wasted.
@BeastandBird

Yeah, best off clamping it and ruining the integrity of the hose another foot down the line. That way you get to repair it again in a week's time.

@@HBSuccess my big shop has air lines hard wired throughout with fittings to attach to throughout the shop. Each mechanic have their own hoses. It just seems so impractical to hard wire the cheap hoses into the shop so that they’re then super challenging to replace. Seeing as this type of thing is super common for these air hoses.

This is why I only buy good quality hoses, never had an issue with my 50 foot hose and I've taken it with me roofing, framing, and working in my shop, had it for 9 years now and I've only had to replace the fittings with larger aluminum high flow ones to help with air flow. The day something is wrong with it, ill throw it out and get a new one, I've always seen those barbed hoses have that same issue with air inside the walls
