This and 727 do not have anything in common other than a T-tail. IL-62 is very similar to Vickers VC10, but not to 727. I would say from Russian-made fleet, 727 is closer to TU-134 visually and in size. But google for TU-134 cockpit photo and compare to 727. It's scary.

That is the Il-62's trademark landing gear strut. Positioned at the rear of the fuselage, it extends when the aircraft reaches its parking position. Aircraft with rear-mounted engines are usually tail-heavy (particularly so with the Il-62 and its 4 large D-30 engines) when sitting empty on the ground. To prevent the aircraft from tipping the strut is lowered to provide balance while empty on the ground.

These are pretty interesting. I flew one in 1992 from Kiev to New York. We stopped at Shannon to pick up more fuel. I was 12 at the time and pilots let me see the cockpit. I was amazed. Design is pretty unique too. Sure, it's a copy of Vickers VC10, but improved.

First of all it looks like a VC-10 British aircraft, the only difference is that it sounds like a washing machine and it's Russian, Second of all how did you manage to get footage did you need to tell Kim Jung Un secrets of U.S Nukes or something cause it's really really rare to see footage like this
@9999AWC
8 жыл бұрын
+The Aviation Enthusiast First of all, it's an Il-62, which came before the VC-10. Second, tourism in North Korea is quite popular nowadays, and there are even special trips for aviation enthusiasts. They'll hold their first ever North Korean air show in a couple months now, and hundreds of tickets have been sold (mind you they're around $2000-$3000 per ticket, trip and food and accommodations included). Not really that rare a footage anymore...
@TheAviationEnthusiast

AWC I guess any fan of post-Soviet era aircraft would be happy to go there. And $2000-$3000, really??? That sounds like a fairly great deal, what I meant by the footage is that, the North Koreans guides would tell you what you can and can't film. Got the link for the air show, I would like to visit NK one day :)
