"The Swiss Family Robinson" used air skinning. Some ideas are just hard to put down. My first attempt at skinning a cow without a gambrel or winch was done with air compressor assistance, not only did I come to the same conclusion that the work was not lessened, the local vet arrived th see the balloon cow. It took a bit of effort to convince him that I was not dealing with anthrax, but was just a teen who had copied the ideas from an old book. You're doing a great job, keep up the good work. I was an avid trapper from 1969 to 1978 in Arkansas. Life got me the way. Now working in Alaska and seriously considering a return to the trade in early retirement. Different group of critters, different rules (public lands vs family farm) but still time well spent. I do not think that many who haven't hunted and trapped can understand how much time is spent enjoying the animals that we harvest. It's hard to trap a critter that you don't understand, that takes real observation. I can trap and believe in conservation at the same time. Clean kills are my goal every time. There is no desire to cause misery to the animals that I harvest. Last anecdote: I have an ancestor (great aunt to my grandfather, I believe) who was still being talked about for putting a plate of trapping carcass renderings out for the preacher after he had invited himself to dinner. All carcasses were rendered since fat was valuable in 1800s the animals on the plate turned out to be skunks and were said to be very tasty. My family claimed to never put the question to the test, though they did eat many opossum, not me. Raccoon, yes, muskrat, sure squirrel of course possums no thanks.

I never had any better success with air skinning as you had. I did build your skinning machine and it works great! I've done otter, fisher, coyotes on it and this fall for the first time I did a White Tail buck that one our gang shot. What a time saver. For mine I used an old tolling motor foot control to run the motor up and down. Thanks for all the videos you've done and your commitment to better fur handling. Oh, and great boat building videos too...

After skinning and fleshing it works great to inflate the pelt to turn it into an XXXL. The cost of the compressor and the cost of the electricity to run the air compressor must be amortized per raccoon skinned. So when considering all of the costs to produce and bring to market each raccoon pelt, there will now be an additional 5 cents lost per pelt. Each pelt’s value = -$3.05

Thanks for the videoes. One observation from a novice: Fleshing with the power washer and skinning withthe air compressor "might" help- if somebody didn't know how to do it anyway. You definitely are a professional. Years ago I heard something about airing up the hide and now I've seen it. Makes sense. Even though your time was shorter the conventional way I believe it was easier because the hide had been somewhat loosened. Either way you've sure got a good setup but then, a professional would have good equipment and also know the tricks of the trade. Great video. Buy the way, I had to subscribe and of course I hit the thumbs up. Excellent work.

There's another problem with "air-skinning." If you have an air-compressor which uses oil...you will get a motor oil type of flavor in the meat. If you're going to use the "air-skinning" method (for some reason)...use an oil-less air-compressor.
