In this video, I share my exciting journey of attending an airbrush class taught by the world-renowned artist, Gerald Mendes. You can find his KZitem channel here. @GeraldsArt As an automotive airbrush artist with two decades of experience, I quickly realized that I had been painting way too fast, resulting in oversaturated art pieces. However, after learning from Gerald, I discovered the importance of applying paint in a controlled manner, avoiding over-saturation for a more refined outcome.
During the class, I also observed Gerald's unique techniques for different airbrushing styles, such as freehand, shields, and texture stencils. By adjusting how I held these tools, I was able to achieve sharper lines, enhancing the overall precision of my artwork. Additionally, I learned to tame my wandering mind, which tended to stray away from the reference when focusing on intricate details. Now, I can fully concentrate on replicating the intended design, creating a more accurate portrayal.
One crucial aspect that Gerald emphasized was the reduction of paint. Understanding that the viscosity of the paint greatly influences the ability to paint intricate details, I learned to adjust the paint's density accordingly. This skill proved vital when working on small leather pieces and allowed me to achieve astonishing levels of detail, painting very close to the surface.
Upon completing my artwork, I felt content with my creation. However, when comparing it to Gerald's final piece, I realized that he used significantly less paint while successfully airbrushing intricate details expected from a master artist. This realization humbled me and motivated me to continue growing as an artist by seeking more learning opportunities in the future.
I am immensely grateful for this enriching experience and the wisdom imparted by Gerald Mendes. My journey as an airbrush artist has been profoundly transformed, and I eagerly anticipate undertaking future classes to expand my artistic horizons.
