This stuff is great. I was an instrument instructor back before these RNAV approach systems so never learned this. Thanks!

The localiser antenna for 12 are in the carpark. The instrument approach for 30 in 2000 was an NDB/DME stepdown between substantial terrain with 1,200 ft minimums. Makes sense to take the waterfall approach really.

Great video as always! In the 60s I think they started the service FAE-CPH with DC-3 via BGO. Then came the Fokker F-27, also via BGO. There is not a lot of good long rwys in the north Atlantic… Mærsk flew the route both from CPH and BLL with a 737-200. I think it might have been one for the record books. I think the rwy 40 yrs ago was not more than 1100-1200m. I know they had a reduced MTOW from FAE. Today the rwy is 2k and a new terminal. The only thing missing now is a high speed train service in to Tórshavn. Lol!

Pretty steep final approach. Looked like 3.7 deg on the chart but the PAPIs were all white to touchdown. Do they set PAPIs to the glide slope of the approach path or are they locked at 3 degrees.
@navelpicker

PAPIs are set for the approach to each end of a runway. For FAE, 12 is 3.15 degs & 30 is 3.5 degs.

Sounds more distracting to me. Do you really need to know 500fpm… 2 seconds later 600fpm etc… call if he’s going more than a 1000fpm. My 2 cents

@@jlh7725 I think this kind of 'active monitoring' is much more effective, and keeps both parties much more engaged on the relevant parameters, than the usual style of passive monitoring where only deviations are called out. The passivity gets normalised and so the deviations normally get missed. Cognitive studies support this style of active engagement as a much more effective way of monitoring performance.
