how do you know chich cylinder #1 ? whats your reference magneto timing?

I’ve never seen a magneto with a tiny sight window to line up the red tooth in order to have the Egap, I’ve always used a pin.

Different types of magnetos. Slick and bendix. One has the red tooth. One uses the pin.

How do you know if you're TDC on compression stroke or TDC on end of exhaust stroke or does it matter?

you can hand crank the engine and look at which rocker arm/valve actuates

@@badboybootz8 no problem man. just remember to see look in the sparkplug hole and see the top of the piston in addition to seeing both rocker arms relax. To answer your other question im pretty sure that you need to be on TDC Compression, but dont quote me on that.

Guessing that when the piston starts pulling your thumb, you will be on the intake stroke, after that full revolution you will get compression stroke
