Great looking Spit, Gary and I'm not talking about the dribble down the front of your shirt! You raised a good point about the compression springs and wheel heights when the aircraft is grounded and they bear the weight, making the wheel appear higher. Some of the small details that we tend to overlook when attended to all help to create the realism we strive for. I'll have to research our Liqour stores to see if Spitfire is available around these parts, great name for a beer! Excited to see you've made a start on the Tamiya 1/32 "Mossie"! All the best for a Happy New Building Year! Cheers : )

AH! You're on the "Mossie"! NICE! Oh yeah, you're talking about the Spit. The three of you built some excellent examples. Your PR Spit looks fantastic, detail is very good in the pit and camera well. Congrats! Talk less drink more! - Bob

Happy New Year to you too Gary! My first kit was not a Spit. it was a Frog made Mirage III which my Dad and I made on the kitchen table when I was 8. The odd thing is that 37 years later I've got the same kit in my stash. The other thing I was going to mention is that I noticed the new tool 1:72 Gladiator from Airfix has an optional wheel set where the axel is off centre indicating weight. Its nice they are starting to consider that.

I just got this kit for Christmas, too, actually. She's my second Airfix kit I've ever built, here in the US (specifically in California) we have disgustingly ridiculous shipping laws so we don't get Airfix here very often, and I can say that they are pretty high quality.

Happy New Year, Gary! Thanks for all the lovely videos! Hoots, mon, dinna spill yer beer! On the topic of childhood models: My all-time favourites were the same HS P1157, a Hunter Seahawk, Brewster Buffalo, DH Otter, Bolton Paul Defiant, Beaufighter, and of course the venerable Hawker Hunter and the Spit - most from those selfsame plastic bags! Love your weathering techniques, too... I have decided my next build is going to have VERY subtle weathering... That Typhoon I just finished ended up too grimy... shocked me back to reality! :-)

Can you please tell me what kind of paint to use to paint an aluminum colored aircraft (e.g. P-51 Mustang) but to be able to mask it off to create diff. levels of alum. shading without having the alum. base paint peeling off after removing the masking tape..? I have tried Alclad with is't black color base and also, a couple of buffing colors, but everything either peels off or turns "flat" after clear coating ( maybe I'm missing a step, but I followed the other tutorials here in YT.) Thank you... (...your decal on the Spit is upside down...)

+El Diablo If you can afford it, the Gunze Mr Hobby range has a new set of metallics called Super Metallic that I think rivals Alclad for finish and, more importantly, durability. They cost about £7 so ain't cheap, but they are now my go-to metallics.

What do you use to get the glossy canopy ??
@MakingModelsAgain
8 жыл бұрын
+james fender In this instance, I did dip the canopy in Johnson's Klear - the floor polish. If you can't get that - it is hard to find these days and fetches a pretty price - you can use Alclad's Aquagloss. These give the canopy a crystalline clearness. Of late though, I've actually been reducing the clarity of clear parts. I mean, just look at the windows on your car!!!
