Your skills are top notch as usual Nigel. Watching your other videos in the past has improved my decaling skills immensely and has taken a lot of my anxieties away while doing them. I actually enjoy them now unless I am stenciling an F-4 Phantom. I put micro-set under and on top of decals as I always have. Didn't know some people thought that is an issue. I am wondering why that is an issue for some if the instructions say to do it that way
@NigelsModellingBench

I don't think it's an issue for some, I just think that some don't realize, and question why I do it. Thanks for your kind words there. Much appreciated.

I've done 'rough' invasion stripes on a 48 mossie - and it just looks stupid - I, like you, think the same - it's just one of those odd 'modelling' things, like finishing models being 'matt' while in real life there was some 'gloss'... interesting on this as I was planning to use my kit decals too.. nicely done.

Nigel, While watching this video, I had a small epiphany about something you do, but which I don't think most new modellers would realize simply by watching your videos, and that is: having patience, taking time, and not rushing whether it be applying decals, or the painting of parts, or gluing pieces together, is absolutely key to achieving good results. Adding this suggestion to some of the narration that you direct toward the newer modellers might help them enjoy the hobby more as they obtain better looking builds. (RANT ON -The instant gratification provided by social media in today's society, of course, doesn't help people learn to slow down and take the extra time required to do a job really well - RANT OFF).

Fantastic work N. A question: I am not sure what the reason was, but when I was starting out I plumped for Mr Hobby's Mark Setter Neo and Mark Softer Neo instead of Micro Sol/Set. Do you [or any of your readers] have experience with them? How do they compare? I think they are great, but if the Micro system is that much better, obviously I would swap.
@NigelsModellingBench

In my opinion the Micro set/sol is better.

Hi Nigel, great videos and advice especially for a novice builder lick me and can’t wait to start my spitfire. Just wondering what mixing ratio you would recommend for the Tamiya paint (ie: 50/50 75/25 or none) with water or thinners? I use brushes as only just got back into modelling so no airbrush yet. Would be great full for any advice on this. Thanks in advance Andy M
@NigelsModellingBench
Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew. For brush painting Tamiya X or XF colours you'll need a thinner/retarder like Modellers World Acrylic Doctor or levelling thinner for Brush painting. It's available in the UK from Premium Hobbies and you can save 10% with code "NMB 10". You can mix as thin as you like. The finish will be better with 2 coats of thinned paint rather than one coat of thicker paint.

Another terrific video. I painted my roundels and fin flash however I now realise that the fuselage position is wrong. I followed the instructions to the millimetre. The painted version does look rather good though ! For the walkway lines, I used NATO black which looks slightly faded. For your next build, the Eduard exhaust stubs look very nice indeed.

The problem I find with using Microsol on a glossy surface is that the surface tension of the liquid draws it into a single blob instead of it being spread around where I want it. Any solutuion to this?

Quick question, my supplier was out of Mr Colour Levelling Thinner so I got Rapid Thinners, what can or can’t I do with this? I’m sure they aren’t interchangeable…
@NigelsModellingBench
Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, Rapid is hotter, so will damage clear parts if you use it to remove Mr Surfacer. Also it doesnt level like levelling thinner and will leave a rough finish if you spray "dry", especially with Tamiya XF paint.
