Cheap Rate Bazaar | Ajmer Sharif Dargah | Rajasthan
Naya Bazar - Ajmer’s Perfume Capital
Those, who want to buy perfumes, should walk to Naya Bazar. It is famous for its array of shops, selling itra or ittar, traditional perfumes of India and the Middle East. Ittar is made from the essential oils of flowers and serve as an organic alternative to modern perfuming agents. Even if your main aim is not to come here, the fragrance of ittars will definitely lure you.
Dargah Bazar - A Place to Shop as well as Binge
Aptly named as it is just outside Ajmer Sharif, Dargah Bazaar is the best place to shop for offerings and other things, related to Sufism. Here, you can purchase silk sheets, decorated with beautiful Arabic calligraphy. On the more expensive sheets, rose petals are sewn, giving off a pleasing aroma. You can also shop for steel glasses, carrying intricate floral carvings. Several shops here sell sohan halwa, a local favourite, as well as an array of non-vegetarian kebabs.
Mahila Mandi - A Woman’s Paradise
Mahila Mandi, as suggested by its name, is a heaven for shopaholic women. Stores, filled with colourful lehengas, odhnis, trinkets, jewellery, dyed fabrics and mojaris, draw women shoppers in huge numbers. If the warm weather of Ajmer makes you tired, then visit the kulfi-faluda stalls in the market. Good bargaining skills can come in handy, getting you value-for-money deals on your favourite stuff.
Nala Bazar - Storehouse of Garments
The rich culture of Rajasthan is easily visible in the ethnic garments that you can buy at Nala Bazar, barely 0.5 km from the city railway station. Apart from a range of local garments, you can also purchase the latest clothes. The market area also has loads of restaurants, where you can gorge on Rajasthani delights.
Churi Bazar - Bangles, Bangles Everywhere
Glass bangles, called churis, are among the favourite ornaments of Indian women, and when it is Rajasthan, you know you can buy some incredible ones. An astonishing range of bangles in all colours is available in the market. Whether you like plain bangles or those with varied designs, you can purchase them all at Churi Bazar.
Madar Gate - Wear an Over 6000-year old Tradition
The Madar Gate market is the place to be for purchasing Bandhani fabrics. Bandhani is a type of dying technique, in which the yarns in a saree are tied into knots and then immersed in colours. Once opened after dying, the cloth comes alive with incredible designs. The history of this art has been traced to around 4000 BC as per Indus Valley Civilisation excavations. Apart from Bandhani, this bazaar can also be visited to shop for silver ornaments, Jodhpuri juttis, ittar and miniature paintings.
