In 2022, a group of African authors, in partnership with Brittlepaper and Syllable (a Los Angeles-based production company), came together to create a rich fictional shared world based on African traditional influences in which they, and all other African authors, could set new stories. Thus, Sauuti was born: a 5-planet, binary star system where all technology and magic are based on sound waves and oral traditions. Four of the authors will discuss the experience of collaboratively building such a shared world, its cosmology, history, mythology, language, and the forces driving (and threatening) the lives of those inhabiting it.
