Something about this scene resonates through my heart, so dreamy and captivating that I can't put it into words, it's such a beautiful scene.

This completely blew me away as a teenager. It made me feel completely different about death and the way it should be dealt with. This film and especially this scene will always have a special place in my heart.

I saw this scene at the age of 15 and it completely change me on the death topic. After 20 years, now I know from out of body experiences that death is just another transformation, and from experience I know how leaving the physical body is glorious excited and full love. I thank God and thank Akira for this heads up.

Aside from 'The Tunnel' segment, this is my favorite in the movie. So much poignancy inserted here. The music feels similar to the 'chindonya' of yore. And the younger women chanting in rhythm feels like a 'yosakoi' competition. I'm honored to have watched 'Dreams'.

this last Scene in Dreams always makes me cry. I appreciate you posting this as I do not own a copy of the film. My one request would be that you added the closing sequence with the seaweed flowing with the river's current.

so beautiful. I just wish the ending was less abrupt. The version i found online ends just like this, without credits, but it still matches the runtime it says the movie should have. weird

I wonder is Kurosawa dreamt of the melody to this dirge as well. Though I'm not so sure a dirge is an accurate term for this scene. If so, amazing the capacity he had to not only dream such precise notes, but to remember it and capture it to be put into film.
@Erik-Erikson

It could be that he only remembered a certain part of it, and that’s why it repeats. I don’t presume to know, but perhaps there was more he just couldn’t remember.

Despite the procession, it's not "the procession of the sardar". Only the music at the very end is from Ippolitov Ivanov's Caucasian Sketches, and it's "The Village".
