The NES, while not as powerful as the Master System, was definitely capable of some great graphics and sounds. I prefer the Japanese Famicom version over the NES version, not just because of the enhanced sound, but also because the Famicom version has less BS moments (such as getting sent back farther when losing to Dracula), Grant's ability to throw infinite daggers without costing you any hearts, and being an easier game than the US version while still remaining a challenging game. It's similar to Ninja Ryukenden III on the Famicom, in which that version is also slightly easier than the NES Ninja Gaiden III while still being a challenge.

Still my favorite of the entire series, the branching paths, the 3 spirit helpers, the music (yeah I like the NES soundtrack just as much as the FC VRC 6 sound), the environment. No longer were you relegated to just the castle like in the first game (even if the second game allowed you to also traverse the countryside, it set it's own table that the Metroidvania's would later draw from, so it has it's own importance), you could traverse different environments, each with it's own set of hazards, some a pain in the ass, like the falling block stages, or the stairs with the Dragon Skull Cannons lining the walls, to some that were awesome, like the Ghost Ship, or familiar castle entrance stage (complete with Vampire Killer setting the tone). How I got my copy, well interesting story, a friend of mine had 2 copies. One day he wanted to trade a copy of Shinobi III to another friend of ours as he was getting rid of his Genesis and going back to NES. Since he was finished with high school, I had the dubious, but simple task of trading the Genesis game for another NES game that I can no longer remember. For doing the simple task of a trade, in return as for payment, I got his second copy of CV 3. The friend who gave me the CV3 though, these days, he's in prison for life for killing his child. He lost his temper (he is short tempered and epileptic), and since his baby wouldn't stop crying, he shook the poor infant, and ultimately the child's head hit the floor, instantly killing the poor baby. So yeah, the story went from happy, to sad in the same paragraph, but that is how life is. I still have my copy of the game to this day, but was astounded to find out how this same friend who gave me such an awesome gift for a small favor, would turn out to be a monster years later.

His name is read as "Belumondo" in the Japanese version. The L-sound in Japanese is a so-called "alveloar flap", where you pronounce the L-sound by kinda resting your tongue on the gum ridge and then pulling your tongue back, and that sound is somewhere between an L and an R, and this is why English spellings of Japanese names often mix up those letters.

Nintendo didn't allow third-parties to manufacture their own cartridges for the US, so the game had to be adapted to one of Nintendo's own expansion chips. I don't believe stage design was any different between the US and Japanese versions, just the hopping rabbit beasts became the familiar fleamen seen in the US version, the amount of hits lessened for some enemies, the music using the more sound channels the FC presented. The stage design though, unchanged between the two. The US version was made harder to combat the game rental market, Konami wanted to make money by having people have to buy the game and practice at it to beat it, not have it being beatable on the first shot by someone renting the game (imagine that, eh). In Japan, no rental market, you HAD to buy the game, so Konami set the difficulty to a more normal level, the same way they did for Bayou Billy/Mad City on the FC.
Always remember... Trefor is a horrible name. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I know this will upset some, but to me the soundchip used here is not that impressive. Compared to the US release, the soundtrack sounds different sure, but I will not call it better, just different.
