Thanks for the detailed video. I was considering the whale watching but I did it in Alaska already on a much more comfortable boat 😅

We felt like we had better whale watching experiences in Alaska. The zodiacs are fun, but Jonathan is sure he got kidney damage😂😜

That was an amazing video. Really enjoyed it. The views are fantastic. So did you take the shore excursion from the ship or did you rent a car and tour independently? Was your cruise from Copenhagen round trip?
@welltravelledlife
Жыл бұрын
We organized our own excursions. The rib boat whale watching is very close to the port - walking distance. The trip out to Myvatn, the falls, and the geothermal area we organized with a guide in a small group. We were actually on the Nieuw Statendam for 3 months last summer, so we were in and out of Copenhagen quite a bit. Are you headed to Iceland?

@@jasbirkaur5795 You're going to love it. Akureyri was a favorite stop for us because there's a lot to see in the north, and it's a bit less touristy than Reykjavik.

Love your video! We are going to Akureyri this August, Just wondering are there lots of local tours outside the cruise terminal? Thank you.

You’ll have some options, but if there’s something you really want to do, I’d book ahead. Booking privately is easy and cheaper than cruise ship excursions. Viator and Get Your Guide (etc.) all take a cut too. We try to book directly with the tour company to get the lowest price.

Thank you. We almost never use the cruise ship excursions. We try to go directly with local companies as well.

We were there in July and August. I can't say we ever had a sunny day, but we dressed for the weather and it didn't keep us from doing what we wanted.

Hi, May be I missed this part of the video, but did you explain how to do everything in one day? I’m going there in August.
@welltravelledlife
Жыл бұрын
The easiest way to do it all in a day is to go with a guide. They’ll manage the drive and keep you on schedule. We did not use one of the cruise ship tours, we organized our own and we still had plenty of time. If you want to do the whale watching also, I’d plan a second day for that as you won’t have time to do that and the trip out to Myvatn, the waterfalls, the lava field, and the geothermal area. But I’d do the tour first and save the whale watching for another day or even another port. You’re going to love it!!

@Colombia20102018 we paid about $170/person and we’re in a (relatively) small group of 15. The whole tour lasted about 7 hours. Our guide was Tomas. I believe he works with a number of different companies including Star Travel and Imagine Iceland Travel.

The Holder car rental agency is local and just 150 meters from the port. There are also major rental agencies at the airport.
