Al Green and his band, and the funky way they recorded his first records, with the scratchy horns, that Hammond organ created a sound and music that was totally in a class in itself. His emotional falsetto, unique resonance of his body, created a new different 'color' in the sound of a soul singer. PERFECTION skinny body, and soul which oozed out his pores with every note, cemented him into fabric of Soul soul music.. Memphis, and Motown. I loved. The instrumentation and arrangements of those early songs, cemented and syndicated him into something totally unique.

Happy 76th Birthday today April 13, 2022 to the great Al Green, born April 13, 1946. Al Green is one of the most enduring soul singers of the rock era, and is considered by many the most important male singer since Sam Cooke. He has also been referred to as "The Last of the Great Soul Singers." His early 70s work on Hi Records sounds as good today as it did then, and his legend has continued to grow over the past quarter century even as he generally turned his back on popular music. Green is the winner of 11 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received the BMI Icon award and is a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. He was included in the list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, ranking at No. 65, as well as its list of the 100 Greatest Singers, at No. 14.

QUANxboy56, mhertz25: You have to watch his performances on "Soul!" with a mostly Black audience to see the difference. Believe it or not, in his January 3, 1973 appearance on "Soul!" he wears the same jacket. In order, they are: "Let's Stay Together", "Tired Of Being Alone", "Look What You Done For Me", "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart", "Judy." and "Love and Happiness."

@@MarciaSantos-ox1fk I've listened to the best for many years, and am entitled to my opinion. Respect has nothing to do with it. Tina Turner was a great talent, and will be sadly missed. But on this song, I believe her cover was merely "passable". Maybe listen a little more before you call someone rude? Not everyone has to agree with you, or with me. It's ok.
@MarciaSantos-ox1fk
Жыл бұрын
@@billv1072 well clearly there’s something wrong with your ears for you to refer to Tina’s version, which was a monster hit record, as “passable”. Tina’s version not only went to no.1 in several countries but was also the best selling 12” record in 1984 thereby outselling Al’s version. Of course you’re entitled to your “opinion” but I’m also entitled to call out your BS statement and pathetic attempt to diminish Tina’s success with the record.

I love me an audience who does nothing but pause everything and just enjoy the music and relax to the tune, huge respect if you ask me. But let's not talk about this generation, would have been doing the most, screaming across the room, cell phones out, not enjoying the moment... This is what life is about ppl, soak it all into your soul not SD card.
