‘AL MURRAY - NAME A COUNTRY WE HAVE DEFEATED THEM AT WAR’ is a must watch!!
@ComeAlongKay
Жыл бұрын
Except for america actually. They lost in both the revolutionary and also pretty much lost in the war of 1812. I mean it was kind of a draw but mostly america succeeded in reducing their power over the Great Lakes and also wiped them out in at least two battles. Actually america beat them in so many battles it almost seems ridiculous. Even when America was mostly untrained and the French weren’t supporting Americans still won a ton of battles and the ones they lost weren’t really losses as the English took twice the causalities like at bunker hill. They also lost a battle to African tribespeople who literally had sticks. The English are very French like and that extreme overconfidence does not always help. Probably a large contributing factor to their fall. They managed to hold onto the Falklands which even that took massive effort on their side.

@@ComeAlongKay That`s almost as hilarious as what I`ve just watched. During the revolutionary war Britain had bigger fish to fry than the backwater colonies who needed help from France and Spain. As for the 1812-14 war America declared war on Britain while she had her hands full in the Napoleonic wars. Rampaging through Canada and burning down the capital later to become Toronto. The end of Napoleon allowed the British to send troops to help the Canadian militia which saw the burning of the later White House in retaliation. The Americans sued for peace has the Royal Navy blockade had crippled the American economy. Britain having been at war for almost a quarter of a century agreed. The war was already over by the time of your celebrated battle of New Orleans fought because the men in the field didn`t know the war was over. The British were so low on supplies they had little food and even less ammunition and resorted to throwing rocks when it ran out. Not really the great victory trumpeted. As for a lost "battle" against African tribesmen it was little more than a skirmish rather like Custer`s demise at the hands of the real Americans. The laughs keep coming "very French like and extreme overconfidence"? you dont build the greatest empire the world has ever seen with those attributes. As for the Falklands it was a forgone conclusion the logistics was a big problem but professional soldiers fighting conscripts (however brave) was only going to end one way. The people on the island voted overwhelmingly to stay British they were not enamoured by a failing Argentinian junta propped up by the Americans.

@@ComeAlongKay I see you try to pass off historical episodes without context. The US had no chance of winning the War of Independence without international help from two other superpowers. The war of 1812 was lost by the US. They invaded Canada and got kicked out. The Battle of Islandlwana was followed by what? And as for the French. Britain was fighting them at the very time the war of 1812 Kicked off. The US failed over there and the French failed over here. And just as a cherry on the top. No Great Britain, no US of A.

I’m so glad y’all got around to Al Murray aka The Pub Landlord. He’s got one that’s a 20 something min clip called “Nations” where he goes around a globe talking shit about everywhere & I lost it once he got to the US bc I live just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee & I definitely didn’t expect him to mention it in his rant about how nowhere is better that Britain. Which is him playing a character btw. Even if he actually felt that way, he’s not near as arrogant about it as his stage persona but he’s still funny so all his insults, even those about us in this country, crack me right tf up.

It's important to understand Al Murray's whole act is based in irony. He is pretending to be an out spoken nationalist type of person but deliberately undermines his own points and often subtly compliments other nation, even when appearing to insult them. With this in mind i highly recommend 'Al Muraay's take on the nations of the world'

Al Murray is basically playing a character that is a Stereotype, who see's the world in Stereotypes,and has a comical over nationalistic (pro British) lens on everything. The Character is also supposed to be a Pub landlord (Bar owner), hence the Beer/Taps. Part of his act is basically Ripping on people through the character lens, which is satire, the character himself is a stereotype. So every stereotype he rips on, is in a way him ripping on British National Identity more than anything else. It's quite clever. Its in a way taking a big dump on pro imperialist part of British identity which still exists to this day in an odd way. Al's roasting is pretty savage of other nations, but that is also part of the stereo type his character is.The Pub Landlord cant possibly admit anyone does anything better than Britain, in particular England, because it would break the complicated illusion the character has built for himself, so instead he makes jokes about other nations. Its almost like South Park in that way, i feel both have similar ways of framing the character even if Al Murray is stand up and South Park is a comedic Cartoon. I think its not obvious to people not from or living in the UK, just how much is character.

Dude have you seen how much the English overreacting to jokes, or even an American accidentally getting an English thing wrong? They lose it and go for the jugular with the most crass gross comebacks. I’ve seen a lot of interactions and it’s usually Americans insulting themselves and complimenting the English and the English insulting Americans and complimenting themselves. Actually the English shed pure hatred towards Americas it’s often not even jokes just we hate you and you’re ignorant and fat and suck. And then they’re like ha that’s our edgy humor. Then if you make fun of their accents or way of speaking or anything else they get visibly angry and start firing back with tragedies that have occurred like ‘well at least our country wasn’t attacked during 9/11.’ It’s like holy goodness that’s what you go to as a reaction to making fun of your accent? You insult the way we speak nonstop how does that upset you so much. The English are so famous for doing that as a butt hurt response to things it’s a meme at this point. Americans are no where near as butt hurt to the point that we almost seem too self deprecating. Every Americans falls over themselves complimenting the English all the time and it’s embarrassingly wrong and unwarranted. You guys aren’t that great as a people right now you come off as jealous of america and it gives you this like insecure self aggrandizing demeanor. Also one thousand percent if an American made jokes like this about England and the ammo to do so is just endless many English people would lose it. And some Americans would probably pathetically try to defend the English like ‘oh it’s funny but you guys are great and all.’ Something the English would never do in defense of Americans.

@gbulmer

There are British beer taps on the bar too. The 'beer' isn't real; he'd get drunk. So I think it's deliberate. As you rightly asked, why's a chauvinistic Brit drinking Australian beer? A joke to make him, and the Brits who behave like him, look stupid? I guess every brit over 30yo remembers Fosters' _very_ Australian TV ads. Paul Hogan, of Crocodile Dundee, featured in their ads for a while. The catch phrase was "Fosters, Australian for Lager". The 'tap' is also distinctive. So the joke is in plain sight for folks who look and think. You're top level, Sir! 👍 Also, Lager is easy to fake. It's pale compared to many British (on tap) beers, which are darker. A lager-coloured drink could be made by mixing a weak (

Nice review guys. We Brits like to poke fun at everyone including ourselves, we call it banter and everyone is fair game, I give my friends a lot of stick and I take a lot back too, but it doesn't work with British women, they don't really have a sense of humour and can get easily offended so it's just a male trait. Freedoms, lol, oh, don't! You're not even free to cross the road at any point you want to, unlike any western European country! I had this freedom at 11 years old, walking to school and crossing one of London's busiest Roads, any where I wanted. I didn't have to walk 750 yards down the road to a Cross Walk, whatever that is, wait for the walk sign to light up, then walk back 400 yards to go down a street, fearing arrest for Jay Walking, if I didn't! Let's go down the pub for a beer, we can stand outside for a chat with other likeminded people and drink while we are putting the eorld to rights, yep stand on the pavement (Your Sidewalk), and drink alcohol, even walk to the next pub, drinking your beer and no need to bring a large brown paperbag to hide it in! What about berating the Officials at a Football (real Football, played with your feet) match because they are useless, without the game being stopped and getting taken to jail! You should come over, you may just like it, maybe too much!
