Thank you for your fair, unbiased and honest review. Indeed, your ears did not lie to you. I have the entire set (pair of powered/active F1 Subs and a pair of Model 812 Array top speakers)-- they do deliver clean, crisps MIDs and HIGHs; and clean (not muddy), deep bass. I got my set hooked up to my Yamaha MGP16x Mixer. And for some of those Bose haters out there, please give it a try. Take a listen, after all, your ears will not lie to you.

I run FOH at a venue in hollywood Ca. Back in feb of this year, we installed the full F1 system in our smaller room(70 capacity). We have been very satisfied with it. It's MORE then loud enough!. The biggest surprise were the subs. A pair of those duel 10s rattle anything loose in the room!. Fyi, we have the RoomMatch system installed in our larger room(250 capacity). We are also very happy with that system.

Based on what I read, the different configurations are based on the set up you need with regard to the relationship between the speakers and the audience. I have used the L1 before and I know that those mini line array speakers are highly directional in the vertical plane which is why I think they created this model outside of the L1. I heard the difference when you pushed it in for sure, but I am not sure if that was because of the vertical directionality as compared to where you were. If it was seriously an EQ difference that is quite interesting.

Hi! Nice review, I'm almost inclined to buying two F1 sets. I have read multiple times (including one comment in this section) that claims that active equalization of the F1 would make it really shine. Do you have any inputs on this subject?

I listned to this system today at a party and without even pushing them that hard the left pair had to be shut down becouse the coils on both the tops and the subs overheated and smelled pretty bad, and no clip or limit light was shown on either the speaker or mixer. And also, why would they run eight 1 inch drivers for mids and highs? And how would they run like 500 watts?
@FluteHypnosia

Initially, I bought the bass first. And wanted to use it with the K10s. When I use the deep feature of K10, it seemed to illuminate the need for the sub. Finally I did some research and opted to get the tops as well.

Question; I own 2 qsc K12 speakers, can I use the F1 subs without purchasing the bose 812 for the time being and how would it sound?
@alpoulin1
7 жыл бұрын
I think the K12s over a pair of Bose F1 subs would sound great. You would just need to adjust the gains on the subs and tops so that the overall sound is balanced. Once you've got that down, you should be good to go. I tried my little DXR8s over the F1 subs with excellent results. I actually prefered them instead of the 812 tops :-)

I recently used my F1 subs with some loaned JBL PRX535 3-way speakers for a larger event and surprisingly the F1 subs pulled it off very well indeed! I also highly recommend the F1 tops if you're doing a lot of artists who play acoustic guitars regularly as they sound very smooth and don't sound harsh!

Al, how would you compare the F1 subs to say, a K Sub, Yamaha DXS15, or PRX715? Could they possibly run with a KW181/prx718 by chance? Obviously won't go as deep, but as far as keeping up with a quality top. Last Q-- is there a standard pole mount on top of the sub, or do you need to run their funky speaker stand on top (say you wanted to run 1 F1 sub + a k8). Thanks man!
@alpoulin1
7 жыл бұрын
From my audition, I would say the F1 subs sound better (and deeper) than KSub or DXS15 subs. Never tested the PRX' so I can't comment. I have heard the KW181s and would say the F1 subs are more similar in sound to those. That is to say very musical and fat bottomed, while I find the K sub and DXS to be more thumpy overall, although I find my DXS12s (in X-TENDED LF mode) are fine for my applications - mostly weddings and such, but those who like strong deep bass will be happier with the KW181s of F1 subs. As for the F1 tops, they can be mounted on standard tripid stands, which Is how I used them.

One other question-- do the F1 Subs have a standard pole mounting point, say, so you could fly a dxr8 or dxr10 above the Bose sub? Thx again
@djlobb

There is no standard speaker pole mount on the subwoofer itself. However I have no problems running my Yamaha DXR12's on poles with the subs. They sound fantastic. The KSub is pretty weak really. The K12's almost go as low by themselves for example.

As a retired pro club Dj and now mobile Dj I've been looking for something that is small light weight but can produce amazing sound in a small foot print. So I was looking into the newly revised Bose 802-IV, but they are about $989.00 each and just like their predecessors the 802 series I II & III or the home Version the 901's they need that specialty EQ, the new 802's the EQ is optional but it's needed @ $750.00 so if you do the math round it off you're looking at $2800.00 bucks I said no way, so I opt for the 812 and glad I did. I have done my share of research online reading 40 to 50+ reviews going on KZitem watching videos in regards to the 812s and so far I'm pleased with all the info I have read and seen. As of now I have and used one of my favorite PA speakers the passive JBL JRX-115 to power them a Crown Microtech 600 amp with dbx 215 EQ and for the low end active Mackie Thump 18s and I think the Mackie sub will do well with the Bose 812 if needed. I want to thank you for you're honest and unbiased review and opinion on the Bose 812s.

This looks like an older review of the Bose system. It was good info though here in 2019 because I was looking at this system vs an RCF Evox or EV Evolve. I have been an RCF user for the last 10 years. I just wanted to try out a system that is even more portable. Bose sounds good but I have to admit that an RCF HD12 or QSC K12 sounds better as a top. The bass in the Bose F1 sub is very good for it's size. Two sound like a big 18 sub. I think that folks should keep in mind that the goal with these systems like the Bose is portability and easy setup in a package that sounds good. You can put together better sounding systems for the same price but the size and bulk of them will increase. A one man setup becomes a two or three man setup. Out of RCF, EV and Bose ... I thought that the EV had the best sound. Bose F1 had the best bass. EV had the most flexibility and portability for the manner in which I would use it. Truth be told all three sound good. You really can't go wrong. I decided to go with the RCF Evox and I like what I have and it fulfills my needs perfectly. I should point out that out of the choices, RCF is the only one to offer three size choices based on what you need Evox 5, 8, 12. There is also the lighter plastic cabinet J8 and the mixer version J-Mix 8.

Sorry for the delay in answering... I personally prefer my DXR15s overall and sound quality wise, but the Bose have the advantage in terms of weight and size. They are surprising for 12s in terms of the lowfrequency they can produce, but the top end is sweeter and more natural in the Yamahas in my opinion. Both are very capable stand alone for smaller events. As always, if you want deep and strong bass, subs are a requirement...
@djlobb

The F1 tops are very smooth and do really nicely for live music for weddings and corporate events. But for heavier bands and techno playback the Yamaha's easily have the edge with the top end, they'll give you more presence with your techno etc.

I think a pair of the tops would be my choice for karaoke. Their low frequency capability ois actually quite surprising, so for karaoke, I don't feel subs are required. The compact size and low weight are a big plus as well :-)

I think BOSE speakers fulfill it's intended application when used as intended, more so than other brands. You are listening to these speakers just 2-3ft away and comparing high frequency response with array panels in/out etc... I don't think it's a good comparison. You really should be doing this 20-30ft away, from left end of the room to the right, front and back. My experience with Bose line array PA products (802's 402's and L1) is that... audience experience is very consistent throughout the room. That's BOSE's goal, and that should be the goal of any DJ and PA system designers.

Depending on application, these by themselves will handle typical small weddings of 100 folks or so by themselves. Add the pair of matching F1 subs, and it would competently handle up to 200-300 in my opinion - at typical wedding levels.

You are maybe using the Bose F1 model 812 with or without F1 subs, with no active equalization like the Bose T1 Tonematch. This speaker will not give its full potential WITHOUT an active equalization. It's not a complete system without an active equalization. So active equalization is an essential part of Bose F1 model 812, and without this, it's nothing but a simple so-so speaker, I should say. Actually, I am listening in youtube using my Bose F1 812 system.
@bryhecalls2492

I did an experiment using different songs and pushing the UP/Down panels IN and OUT. You are right. High frequencies are disappearing when the panels are OUT. It is more pronounced when using the Bose F1 812 alone than using it with the Bose T1 Tonematch and an equalizer.
@alpoulin1
8 жыл бұрын
I don't think the Tonematch is required with the F1 system. The reason I was interested in it is because I didn't think it required additional processing as monst Bose products do. I did get to hear the 812 tops with matching F1 subs a few days ago. good sounding system, but we switched the 812s for my Yamaha DXR8s for fun and it actually sounded even better. I'm pretty sure it's because of Bose's use of those full rage speakers instead of a quality compression driver. The top end simply sounded crisper and more natural on the Yamahas. We were 3 DJs doing the test and we all agreed... I did like the F1 subs however. Nice low frequency extention and nice light weight.

no, you don't need t1 at all and it is not intended to be used like that. The T1 is meant for the L1, and the use of a T1 is not different than putting any Eq in your rack and create a curve you enjoy. What processing are you using on the T1 that you claim makes the F1 shine?

I am not a Bose fan in general, but decided to rent them and give them a fair chance. They compare well to most quality active 12s out there and get plenty loud for many DJ and live band applications. Adding subs makes them better of course, as is the case with all compact active 12s. Bose does also produce home stereo Equipment of course, but the F1 line is much higher output and performs very well, although it's price tag is rather high.
