I always felt that this episode was the beginning of the end for Steve. By getting caught up in winning a trip to Hawaii, he sacrificed good judgment by approving one bad loan after another after another and so on. The straw that broke the camel’s back was providing Al with a loan for $50,000 for a shoe hotline. Because of it, Steve lost his job and respect from Marcy. I have to admit, the slow descent to failure was incredibly clever. 976-SHOE is one of my favorite episodes of the series. Just one great line after another. “Steve, come home and service me. And God help you if you screw that up.”

@@randyjohnson6845 Nothing of that supports the claim that this show was or is "underrated", all that means is that their actors got bigger roles basing on the success of MWC, which is the natural progression of every star. MWC was very popular when it aired and got cult status basically immediatedly. Of course there were always people that didn't like it because it was offensive to them or the humour too crude - you can't make everyone happy. But it never was "underrated", it started out as an instant-classic.
