JUst listen to the harmonies, the sax, the layers in this song. You just don't hear music compositions like this anymore. What a shame.

This is one of those rare songs that stays with you from your youth through your old age. I never tire listening to it. It gives me a sense of nostalgia to a specific place and time of my life. I try not to live in the past but this song takes me there every time.

Kevin Hoffman I totally agree. Majority of friends I have don’t even know the song. Of all the great songs of Al’s this was, and still is, my favorite. Melody, lyrics, Sax...simply sweet. And it’s one of those songs, for me anyway, that as soon as I hear it I fall back to cool memories of the early 80’s growing up.

Hi! I was the producer/editor/restorationist for this video that was released on the A Thirty Year Collection Of Films & Videos DVD. The clips for this and the other official music videos I had to work with were sent to me from an archive holding the original 3/4" masters and-- though I had requested those to work with-- I only received a red book DVD with the usual MPEG 2 compression. On top of that, the audio quality was a less-than-impressive mono and our goal was to remaster and release the content with new multichannel audio. As a result, I had to use the stereo master from the album and in conforming the two very different sources, the edit in question was my best option (though I wish time and available materials had allowed for a more graceful conversion!).

They used to play this version of the song on 970 WFLA-AM (out of Tampa) back when the station played music (before it turned into a right wing talk show wasteland). This version of the song, known as a "radio edit", was (strangely enough) longer than the album version. Usually album versions of songs are longer than their radio edits.
@JoeVideoed

I love this song & when I bought '24 Carrots' I was disappointed it was different from the single edit. I believe this posting actually combines the 2 cause the radio edit (the 1 w/ the bridge coming in twice) had an early fade out for the last sax solo. I don't know if the poster pasted his audio edit over the sound for the video (it seems like this actual performance was live), but it does seem a bit choppy.
