Wow. I didn't realize until just recently watching YT trail cam videos that feral pigs were such a problem across many states. Too bad they can't be eradicated.
@wdaniel9
11 ай бұрын
So you touched on one of the controversial things about feral hogs. People love to hunt and eat them so there’s actually a “demand”, people want them. Some populations were illegally deliberately transplanted for the purpose of hunting. So yes eradication in many ways would be best….. but all the great hunting! Perhaps we might even feed some hungry people or make school lunches out of some free pigs?
@Michael.Outside

@wdaniel9 you’ll never get lunches for schools because they can’t really be inspected by the USDA.

Yip, that spot never fails to capture a whole range of animal and birds. I know I shouldn't say this because of the incredible destruction of habitat, but I do enjoy watching the wild pigs, especially the young ones. And everything looks in good condition 👌. I just hope that poor coyote is able to catch it's food with a sore front leg 😞.

Just wondering if the wild hogs have a different taste than a domestic hog. Growing up you would get a piece of pork that you could tell was slop fed. I know there are hunters out there that would know. I’m just curious.
@davidkresl2195

I shoot all my pork in Florida on my yearly hog hunt. We fill the chest freezer in a week of hunting. They are WAY better tasting compared to a domestic pig.Their meat is considerably tougher, but darker and more flavorful.

Does the camera make noise because some of the animals act like they can hear it and some animals act like they can see it at night is that really a bright light or just night vision
@Michael.Outside

It’s infrared. The only thing visible is a very faint red light. They make some noise. It is pretty quiet but wild animals notice everything.

All the usual suspects, plus the cows, lol. Do you know whether the cows are supposed to be there? Where I live, LADWP (Los Angeles Department of Water and Power) owns land that they lease parsels of to farmers for specified times for grazing. Some of these fenced but sort of wild areas have gates that pedestrians and long-distance runners (c'est moi) are on the honor system to close behind themselves. I feel sorry for the lame coyote. Injured predators can have a hard time catching enough to eat. I'm not sure how packs work. I suspect if you can't pull your weight, you're out. It seems to me that's the way it would have to be. I thought you included about the right amount of pigs. Enough to make us sigh, but not yawn. 🙂 The best moment was the flying squirrel. One of the longest flights I've seen. And, of course, the big stag. All the other bucks we saw would have no chance against him. I assume they would recognize that and pick their fights among themselves. After all, not all the doe can dance with him. Thanks for ending my evening on a high note.
@Michael.Outside
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the nice comment. Those cows are not supposed to be there but I’m sure they found their way home. The fence must be down somewhere. Coyotes have what’s called a fission-fusion adaptation. They can work alone or as a pack. I’m sure that injury isn’t helping either situation though. Cheers!
@alwaysuseless
Жыл бұрын
@@Michael.Outside Thanks for the reply. "Fission-fusion" is a good term, as long as it's not radioactive. Unfortunately, the coyote can't take himself to the vet, and he doesn't have the option of staying off the leg until it heals. It's a tough life. Wildlife can't afford to get injuries. The area we can see on camera doesn't look appropriate for cattle, but we can't tell how close a more pasture-like setting might be. A major problem with a fence down or a gate left open is cattle getting hit by traffic. Not good for the cow or the passengers. In your video, though, they were great for comedy. Sometimes I check your species list before I watch the video, and sometimes I don't. Usually I'm too eager to watch the video. I was glad I didn't know there were going to be cows. That was a good laugh. Then I checked your list, except there wasn't one--which I think was the right choice for this video. Having "cow [or cattle] (Bos taurus)" in the list would have been a spoiler.

The surprises are key. Most of the Alabama I’ve explored has pastures near all the forests, hence the cattle. Hopefully they stay on their side in the future.
