Wow, you'd of been at Portman rd the same time as my grandad. He died 20yrs ago and left me all the match day programmes and other memorabilia dating from 1970 till the mid 80's.

Watch ipswich v west brom 76/8 town beat my beloved baggies 7-0 he set up the 1st and hit a screamer for the 3rd. I used to have a poster on my wall, of my hero cyrille and in that pic was beattie looking like he was telling big c to calm down, Think it was from the 78 semi final. They bloody beat us that day too R.I.P. 2 greats of the game.

Go to Portman Road. See the statues of Sir Alf Ramsey, Sir Bobby Robson, and now Kevin Beattie.

Its interesting to speculate if Beattie had not been wracked by so many knee issues whether he would have been in the centre of England's defence alongside Watson and later Butcher in the late 1970s and leading to the 1982 World Cup..

Cheap shot In those days, nearly (not all) top players lived in a Work Hard, Play Hard culture I.e Bryan Robson, Tony Adams, Alan himself so don’t you dare critique unless you’ve walked in their shoes No condoning excess drinking but you show a lack of understanding that drove these gifted players to perform as they did week after week
